Fatal First-Due MVC-
On May 4, 2026 at approximately 2241 hours, firefighters from the St. Michaels Fire Department and Tilghman Fire Department, along with Talbot County Paramedics 94, 97, and EMS 2, responded to a reported serious single-vehicle accident with entrapment on St. Michaels Road at Old Martingham.

First arriving units found a single vehicle off the roadway with one patient trapped. Shortly after arrival, paramedics assessed the patient as Priority 4 (deceased).

Crews remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half while the Maryland State Police conducted their investigation, assisted by the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, St. Michaels Police Department, and a forensic investigator. Firefighters then worked to extricate the victim.

Units cleared the scene after just over two hours.

Saturday 5/2/26 at 1838 hours St.Michaels Brush 47 and Chief 40 responded to Cordova VFA’s 53 Box at Dependable Sand and Gravel on Ocean Gateway for a Second Alarm plus tanker task force fire with special calls for a fire involving a large structure as well as multiple acres of mulch and log piles. St.Michaels units operated on the scene for approximately 5 hours before returning to service. On Sunday 5/3/26 after handling a fire alarm in our first due area we once again responded back to Crodova with Engine 45 initially as a transfer to Station 50 then to the scene and Utility 40 to the scene as Logical support providing refreshments as units continued to work at the scene, St.Michaels units operated for approximately four hours on Sunday 5/3. Due to the immense size of this fire and the nature of what is burning, smoke, sometimes heavy at times will continue to come from the property for the foreseeable future. Units from Maryland Forestry remain on scene and have cut fire breaks and conducted back burns to limit fire spread, however complete extinguishment is almost impossible and the fire will have to burn out on its own. Forestry is asking to not call for fire department response unless it is confirmed that the fire has crossed containment lines.

St.Michaels Fire Departments March 2026 fire drill focused on vehicle fires. Starting off small with a single passenger car for our newer members and those enrolled in the current Firefighter 1 program we progressed to multiple vehicles on fire as well as limited access and vehicles on their side. The purpose of this drill is to provide additional training and experience in a controlled environment. Senior members emphasized potential dangers while operating on the scene as well as dangers we now face with alternative fuel ie. Compressed natural gas/ liquid propane and electric vehicles.

Small fire handled in Wittman.
2/10/26 0137 hours Firefighters from St.Michaels, Tilghman, Easton, Talbot Co. Paramedic 97 and Talbot Co. EMS 2, responded to a reported dwelling fire on New Rd. Right on the border between St.Michaels and Tilghman Fire Departments. Chief 70 first to arrive advised smoke showing from the chimney of a 2 story baloon construction dwelling, after a 360 Chief 70 updated to the occupant trying to extinguish a fire on the exterior of the dwelling on the Delta side. Engines 74 and 45 and Tankers 75 and 44 as well as Chief 40 all arrived within minutes of each other. All members immediately went to work on the first and second floors with extinguishment and checking for extension. Easton units upon arrival assisted with overhaul, Station20 (Oxford) was alerted for Truck 23 on the box ended up transferring to Station 40. The fire was contained to the area of the fireplace with no extension to the second floor.

We would like to note, this fire started as result of a fire lit in an old deteriorated fireplace, fire extended through degraded morter joints to the backside of the fireplace as well as the subfloor under the fireplace. Please make sure to keep fireplaces, woodstoves and chimneys clean and in good working condition.
