Some residents may have woken up to flags in their yards and are wondering why the City is doing work without community notification.
You should know that the City requires all vendors who are doing work in the City to communicate to affected residents in advance via mail, door hangers or in person communications for any work being done that may affect residents or services. Staff reached out to Xcel Energy this am and share the following letter which Xcel has sent or is sending out to local residents regarding work they are doing in our area. Perhaps you have seen this letter, perhaps it has not yet arrived. Nonetheless, this is not a City project, but importantly, the letter contains the contact person and phone number for the Xcel Energy contact for this work. If you have any questions or concerns, they would be most apt and able to help you. Thanks very much.

Dear Xcel Energy Gas Customer:
Xcel Energy Gas will soon begin work on our natural gas distribution in your neighborhood as part of an ongoing maintenance program.
The project will involve replacing natural gas pipe in the boulevard within the road right-of-way. The service pipe running from the gas main to the gas meter at your residence may also be replaced, depending on the age of the material. If your gas meter is located inside your house, it will need to be moved outside and may be upgraded at that time. If your meter currently is located outside, it may be upgraded in the same location. There will be no charge for any of this work unless you request your meter moved to a non-standard Xcel Energy location.
It will be necessary to dig holes in the area to expose the depth of existing utilities and avoid damaging them while installing the new gas main and services. Any hard or soft surface disturbance caused by the installation will be restored after the project is completed. There will be no cost to you for hard or soft surface restoration. If you have concerns about restorations after the project is completed, please call 651-365-7341 to reach our restoration contractor directly.
Your sewer service lateral will need to be located from the house or business to the sewer main. This work can be done before, or during the installation of the gas main and services. You will be contacted by a crew that will request access to your sewer line to complete this work. The crew will use a camera to televise the sewer service lateral to determine the depth of the line to avoid any damage during the duration of the project. This work will generally take between 30-60 minutes to complete. There will be no cost to you for the televising of your sewer lateral.
During this project, it will be necessary to temporarily disrupt your gas service at the gas meter. The on-site crew will attempt to schedule this service disruption with you before it is completed. Once the work at the meter is complete, the crew will relight any pilot lights on appliances that run off natural gas. If no one is home, we will leave the meter off and tag the door with a phone number to call to have the meter turned on and the pilot lights relit.
Xcel Energy gas crews or contractors will begin work on this project in the near future.
Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project. Please feel free to call with any questions that might arise at (262) 622-1885.
