This weekend felt like the end of summer with the Austin ArtWorks Festival, part of Austin Area Arts which brings artists from across the country and region together as well as music. We enjoyed listening to the Austin Community Band.

Blooming Prairie Fire Department had their annual brat and corn feed. This always brings together most of the community so it was fun to see relatives and friends and former students. They are also preparing for their BP Cancer Group auction.

This weekend also had a variety of multicultural events. The Karen Community had their annual Martyrs Day and Wrist Tying Festival. Mr Dan attended and enjoyed the food by Asian Lotus Food Truck , dancing, sports and art. Mr Dan also attended the basketball tournament with several of the players he plays with. The Austin team won for the men.

Riverland Community College had a community open house to learn about their Agriculture Lab plots and the student learning. It was really fascinating to see the variety of ag learning. I even got to pick my own sunflowers that decorate my kitchen table. Thank you for this learning opportunity. Hands on learning from local professionals is important for future farmers.

Last week the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center had their ground breaking event for their new nature play area. The Nature Center is one one of our favorite getaways to go hiking and check out nature near home. This will be a great addition to the many great things provided to families there. I was honored to be a part of that event. I loved seeing the involvement of kids. What a great asset to our community and others who visit Austin.

The Mower County Fair ended on Sunday with an event that brings back many memories for my husband and his family. This was the way they ended summer as kids watching the Demo Derby with local drivers mixed in with those who do this regularly. Masters of Disaster always puts on a great show. It was even more fun to share it with Mr Dans sister and their family and so the tradition continues. Sadly the event ended with an accident and we continue to pray for those involved.

Thinking about the Fair and the many blessings and connections and experiences are countless. Thank you to the many groups who make this work. It is a great community get together that did highlight so much good.

School starts soon and we lift up the many teachers, bus drivers, lunch workers, support staff and administrators who are preparing for a successful year. When community comes together many good things can happen. Hope the start of school for families is blessed.

Saturday started with the UMN Extension Mower County 4-H Ribbon Auction. We love supporting youth and the work of 4-H in lives. The skills, experiences and leadership gained is invaluable.

Next we went to the River Rats Car Show Austin, MN with many great cars from across the region. I have learned a lot from these car shows about the development and change that brought us to what we have today. I really love the design of cars from the 50s especially the Belairs and also station wagons followed by the very early cars. Thank you to the passionate people who keep these pieces of the past alive and showcase them for a good cause.

Mr Dan went to a Karen wedding and we got back together to enjoy the Supreme Showmanship competition before showing a friend around the Mower County Fair. It is always more fun to get to show your favorites and learn from others.

Day three and four of the Mower County Fair were filled with action and activities showcasing the best of the area. I love getting to represent and work beside the many great people who lead and help others be their best.

We saw several of the many 4-H shows for cattle, horses, llamas, and several others during the days. Mr Dan helped judge the UMN Extension Mower County 4-H BBQ Chicken cooking competition. I love the llama dress up competition the best and we had some exceptional examples this year.

We ate together with Cahn at the St Olaf Lutheran Elca Diner. On the second day, I ate the hotdish on a stick from Ole And Lenas.

We enjoyed Mower County Historical Society 250 exhibit before going to the Great Frontier Bull Riding Company. The rodeo is so good always as it celebrates what is best in America faith, family and hardwork. The mutton busters stole the show with local kids riding the sheep.

Day two of the Mower County Fair was just as packed as the other days without lots of time talking to families and seeing the hardwork of the FFA and 4-Hers. I watched the cattle and goat show and enjoyed a dairy malt before helping the Mower County Dairy Royalty make cones and malts. I appreciate all the hard work of so many to make the fair a success.

My fair food of the day was Piggy Blues BBQ. I was too hungry and Mr Dan was working. He tried the Yoyo yummies Sweet and Spicy Korean Fried Chicken...very good flavor indeed.

Day one of the Mower County Fair. This day is always a grand celebration of community and those who make this the place I proudly call home. UMN Extension Mower County 4-H has there food and malts as well as animal and static projects displayed. We have not visited all those projects yet but have heard many stories of successes from the hardwork that often takes all year. The food was amazing with the addition of Grinders Deli bars as well.

I love sponsoring the fair and supporting all the good it showcases. It was fun to see the latest Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Witt whose farm along 218 we have all seen with its giant horse statue and display of antique machinery. This event also honored the FFA State Degree recipients from Southland FFA, Austin FFA, Lyle Public School FFA, Hayfield FFA and Mrs. Timm L-O Ag Dept & FFA

The Pride of Mower highlighted so many positive contributions made in the county such as Mower Soil & Water Conservation District Conservation efforts, Southeast MN Farm Bureau Farm family of the year and farms that continue after 100 and 150 years. The highlights also continued to volunteers such as the Fair person of the Year Carol Callahan, the Senior Volunteer whose work with the Mower County Sheriff's Office Jail Library has changed lives for inmates. Heidi Stickle from Heidi's Corner in Rose Creek was honored for her tireless work to bring community connections and events. The North Star Honor Flight was honored as the organization of the year for their flights to help veterans experience the monuments in Washington DC and freedom they fought so hard to protect. What a great honor to those who honor our beloved veterans.

We loved seeing hundreds of friends as this is what makes our communities stronger when we can come together to celebrate the good things going on. Of course there is good food and fun. We even tried the Godfather's Pizza - Austin Pickle Pizza--yummy. Hope to see each of you at the Fair.
