Next Wednesday, June 3, is Global Running Day!

We’re excited to be partnering with Twin Cities in Motion for this fundraising event where people of all ages and abilities come together to connect, move, and make an impact. Participants can run, walk, or move at their own pace on a 5K loop. With sponsored fundraising for collective miles, every mile makes a difference. All funds raised will be split between Twin Cities in Motion and Neighborhood House.

Drop in at any time between 7 a.m.–7 p.m. and enjoy family-friendly activities, music, food, drinks, and more. We hope to see you there.

At Neighborhood House, we believe community care starts with showing up for one another. We’re looking for volunteers to support our food programs and help make sure neighbors and families have access to fresh and healthy groceries.

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Grocery Packing and Loading with our Rapid Response program from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 12–3 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays in May. These positions require bending, standing, and lifting. Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0544A9AB2DA0FB6-62376758-weekday.
• Supporting the Food Market Welcome Desk at Montreal from 1–4 p.m. on Tuesdays and every other Wednesday. This position requires a basic understanding of computer tech.

Our friends at The Blue House are inviting youth to an afterschool listening session on May 28, 2026, at Riverview Library that will be focused on navigating grief, violence, and loss. This is a safe space for young people to share what they need and then reconvene in the fall to start programming by them, for them.

Visit Laundrette Laundromat on Tuesday, May 26, for their ArTuesday/Artes Martes event and enjoy a live performance by celloist Dante Carlson from 6-7 p.m.

Beautiful Launderette celebrates art on the last Tuesday of every month by inviting artists, musicians, and writers to share their work at the laundromat with free food and half-off washes from 5-8 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to join these community events, so bring a friend, enjoy some live music, and experience a night of art and community at the mat!

Neighborhood House is seeking volunteers to support our education programs and help create opportunities for learning, connection, and growth across our community.

Volunteers can assist our After-School programs and Teen Mentorship program with tutoring, homework help, reading support, and activities for youth learners.

We believe education is about more than academic skills—it’s about building confidence, relationships, and a sense of belonging.

Neighborhood House believes community care is meeting people where they are! Thank you, Literacy Action Network, for highlighting our organization and our Adult Education program.

Adapting to Evolving Community Needs - Neighborhood House

Since 1897, Neighborhood House has supported thousands of refugees, immigrants and others in transition or crisis. The organization provides basic needs support, from food to housing, and education and enrichment programming for all ages. Its Adult Education (AE) program offers classes in citizenship, continuing education, career readiness, and English skills to adult learners.

Recent immigration enforcement efforts significantly affected the Saint Paul community. Working with local partners, Neighborhood House implemented a Rapid Response Emergency Delivery service in January 2026 to help local families with groceries, laundry, and basic necessities.

Simultaneously, AE staff reached out to learners. They found that students still wanted to attend class but were afraid to leave their homes. The AE team, flexible and adept at teaching online, quickly shifted to offering HyFlex or fully online classes. But beyond program delivery, AE staff asked learners about their needs. "Do you have enough food? Do you need help with laundry? Can I register you for our Emergency Delivery service?"

The Adult Education team showcases the spirit of Neighborhood House: listening to community feedback, responding to evolving needs, and caring for the whole family. Neighborhood House is committed to providing the emergency and long-term support that families need—continuing to work for a future in which everyone who calls Saint Paul home can live and thrive here.
