S. 2355, up for markup Wednesday in the U.S. Senate HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) Committee, creates redundant mandates for healthcare providers that ultimately harm patients without addressing the middlemen that are driving up out of pocket costs. A better approach is needed to improve access to care.

A one-size-fits-all mandate from Washington can't account for what an individual patient needs to recover. That judgment belongs to doctors and patients, not a federal payment formula.

Insurer red tape like prior authorization puts care out of reach for too many Americans, delaying treatment insurers often approve anyway. We're glad to see Congress looking at healthcare costs & hope the focus lands where it belongs.
