Food insecurity is a massive issue, getting worse. I’m grateful that this project is bringing attention to how students are struggling but also that it is talking about policies that are trying to solve the problem.

Government accountability matters. The Senate has been leading the fight against fraud — and now, after the House finally followed our lead, the independent Office of Inspector General is headed to the Governor's desk. I’m proud to help drive this landmark anti-fraud legislation across the finish line.

I’m super proud of the veterans bill we passed this week. We increased pay for our neighbors who serve in the National Guard, created some accountability guidelines for how the Dept of Veteran Affairs administers grants, and enabled new rights and recognition for veterans of the secret war in Laos and those who’ve served in the National Guard. Very proud of this work.

Thanks to our friends at Second Harvest Heartland for stopping by the Capitol. My mother has been a full time volunteer at a Second Harvest for maybe 20 years. Second Harvest does important work, getting food to food shelves in our communities. Their work is important and, sadly, it keeps getting harder, more necessary. Glad they came by today to tell their story.

This is going to sound like I’m bragging, but honest, it’s all about gratitude. I’ve been named “legislator of the year” or equivalent 19 times in the past four years. That’s pretty awesome. But today is better. I was granted an honorary degree by the FFA. I’m really moved by this one, and so deeply grateful.

And it was also great to share the stage with our awesome friend commissioner Thom Peterson who was inducted into the FFA Hall of Fame.

It was a good day.

Steak on a stick day is one of the most collegial days in St Paul. Very grateful to our friends the MN Cattlemen. Also glad that since they’re my friends and I’m the AG chair I got to cut in the long line. But I didn’t abuse my power. I took a bunch of steak back into the Capitol to give to our law enforcement pals who keep the building safe.
