"We're seeing studies come out that say [the companies] are targeting 18- to 21-year-olds and we are seeing gambling starting younger and younger," Minnesota Rep. Emma Greenman, the Democrat and author of the bill, told ABC News on Wednesday.

Greenman noted that the finalized version of the bill has an exception that allows for weather derivatives.

"We narrowed it down to include and cover these things that don't have the financial utility that companies and markets have been using for years," she said.

"Instead of CFTC using their power to regulate, they are coming after us and not doing their homework," Greenman added.

The federal government sued Minnesota after a state legislators passed a bill that would ban prediction market companies from operating in the state.

“We are getting texts and live streams and videos and stories as we have for the last 36 hours from people across the state of Minnesota telling us to stand strong and stand firm for gun violence prevention,” Rep. Emma Greenman, DFL-Minneapolis said outside the House chamber Saturday morning.

Greenman’s district includes Annunciation Catholic Church and School, the site of the mass shooting in August that resulted in two student deaths.

“We know Minnesotans’ kids are watching what we’re going to do here, and they have been doing their job, asking us to choose them, not guns,” Greenman said. “And it is now our job to fight for them and fight to end this epidemic of gun violence that is so directly impacting them.”

The DFL sit-in to force a House vote on a gun measures bill ended without a vote and lawmakers still need to pass key legislation before their Sunday night deadline.
