The City Council is hearing the final report on the design of the early education and childcare initiative in Saint Paul.

We’re excited to see the culmination of years of planning and a robust process for gathering community input through the Early Learning Legislative Advisory Committee. We can now move forward more confident than ever that voters will see that this is a crucial investment in the future of Saint Paul. We know that, working together, our grassroots campaign will win in November and bring stable childcare and early learning opportunities to even more of our families.

This detailed, public plan for the program’s ex*****on makes a few things clear. We must act now to address the childcare and early education crisis we face. Every year we wait means another class of students that will fall further behind before kindergarten. This program will lift up in-home care providers and the families they serve, who are disproportionately made up of people of color and disproportionately serve communities of color. We’re gratified that the final plan explicitly houses the program inside the city’s Office of Financial Empowerment because it is important to create a robust oversight and accountability system for our tax dollars.
