Session came to an end on Monday. It was a busy year which was tricky to navigate due to the tie. And while there are many important things that couldn't get through the tied House, there was a lot of good that was accomplished. Read about it in my end of session update:

Coming into this session it was hard to tell what to expect we could accomplish. All in all I’m happy to say that I was still able to work with my colleagues to bring forward significant wins for our entire state. This includes; saving HCMC, funding for critical infrastructure with a focus on wate...

I’ve been proud to team up with Minnesota Sports and Events in the legislature to bring big events and even bigger economic impact to Minnesota. I can’t wait for them to do their trademark work showing how Minnesota does big events with the NFL Draft!

The 2028 is heading to Minnesota!

The last day of session is always full of thank yous and goodbyes. A big thank you goes out to Bridget, who has interned in my office all session long! She has helped with constituent services and researching bills, and she joined me for many meetings and hearings. I’m grateful for the work she did on behalf of the people of Blaine and Lexington. Wishing her great success at her next internship in D.C. this summer!

It took until past midnight, but we just passed my bipartisan bill to beef up the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit!

I’m glad the budget deal we struck at the Capitol will provide some one-time property tax cuts for Minnesotans. I’m also still working on other legislation to tackle the root causes of these high property taxes and provide a long-term fix.

Lawmakers are proposing a one-time payment of about $171 per home to offset rising property taxes.

Yesterday we passed the Housing Bill off the House floor, and it included two of my bills I authored: funding for infrastructure improvements in manufactured home parks and dollars to build much-needed workforce housing in communities across Greater Minnesota to help unlock economic growth!

At the start of session, I committed to my neighbors in manufactured housing to pursue every avenue to pass the bipartisan Manufactured Home Park Resident Bill of Rights. The final chance this session was last night when my fellow chief author in the Senate author tried to add it to the Housing Bill in conference committee. Unfortunately, the House GOP blocked it once again. However, I will not give up, even if it means trying again next year.

I was honored to receive a certificate of appreciation from the American Foreign Service Association for my work last year on the taxation of the pensions for these critical civil servants. Through this legislation, we’re making Minnesota an even better place for them to retire!

Low-income senior apartments, like the Legends of Blaine, have been seeing rent increases far higher than social security COLAs. I offered an amendment to fix this, but it was defeated on a party-line vote.

The public subsidizes the construction of these buildings so all our elders have a roof over their heads, and we expect owners to keep the rent reasonable in exchange for the tax dollars they receive.

When discussions around the creation of an Office of the Inspector General began, two things were clear: it would be a powerful tool to combat fraud in Minnesota, and it needed more work to accomplish its stated goals. Now, after more than a year of collaborative bipartisan work and taking our time to do this right, the bill we passed today is the strongest version of the OIG possible!
