This session, House DFLers fought to stabilize hospitals, expand mental health funding, and stand up for Minnesotans who deserve care they can count on.

But the work is far from over. Insurance companies are still failing families and Big Pharma is failing our hospitals, putting profits ahead of patients. We need a health care system that works for people, not corporations.

This is one of the biggest, most impactful policy wins of the YEAR. All session long, DFLers were adamant that we needed to pass legislation to save HCMC — and we just did.

It is infuriating that House Republicans continue to stand in the way of common-sense gun violence prevention legislation, including a proposal to ban military-style assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, binary triggers, and ghost guns. Minnesotans have been pleading for lawmakers to act after last year's tragedy at Annunciation Church, and they don't deserve any more excuses or delays.

Members of our communities want lawmakers to deliver real action on gun violence prevention. We will keep fighting for policies that save lives.

Gun violence prevention groups delivered a petition Thursday to Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, demanding that she hold a vote on an assault weapons ban.

Legislative leaders and Governor Tim Walz have come to a bipartisan budget agreement that delivers meaningful results for Minnesotans. This deal saves HCMC and includes other critical support for our hospitals, expanded property tax refunds, investments to help counties upgrade outdated IT systems (think "Oregon Trail" and two-color screens), a strong infrastructure package, and other key priorities. In a closely divided Legislature, finding common ground isn’t always easy, but Minnesotans expect us to work together and get things done. This agreement moves our state forward and makes important investments in our communities.

Minnesota lawmakers and Gov. Tim Walz reached a bipartisan budget deal, which includes investing in HCMC as it faces closure.

Trump’s One Big Ugly Betrayal will hurt real people. As many as 140,000 Minnesotans, including the most vulnerable among us, are set to lose coverage due to the cruel health care cuts from Trump and Republicans, all to pay for tax giveaways for the ultra wealthy. While H.R. 1 is disastrous, it’s also here. If we don’t align, Minnesota could face even more harmful consequences, and as we know, Trump’s harsh retribution knows no bounds.

Facing funding attacks from the federal government, amid long-term structural issues, Minnesota’s health care system is facing urgent challenges. I had the opportunity to appear on a panel as part of a "Hospitals in Critical Condition" forum broadcast by WCCO Radio.

Hospitals across our state are facing serious financial pressure, with Hennepin County Medical Center the most notable example. But while HCMC is facing a dire financial situation, it goes beyond that. Hospital leaders across the state have been raising the alarm about Medicaid cuts and payment delays, uncompensated care, and deeper structural challenges that threaten to close hospitals.

With just days left in session, the Legislature must act to protect patients and keep critical services available in our communities — including saving HCMC, a vital level one trauma center that serves the whole region. You can listen to the full broadcast here. My segment begins at 1:26:25: https://www.audacy.com/wccoradio/news/local/hospitals-in-critical-condition-forum #

House Republicans are in line with Trump and his billionaire buddies, who are benefiting from taking away health care from Minnesotans. I'm working to mitigate the harm and protect our most vulnerable.
