Hennepin County Sheriff's Office
Deputy Lopez serves in the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Unit and also works as a School Resource Officer (SRO) in Rockford, bringing a strong sense of purpose to both roles. Her path into law enforcement began during her time as a Community Service Officer in transit and later as a recruit in St. Paul, where she worked closely with diverse communities and built a foundation of cultural understanding.
From a young age, Deputy Lopez knew she wanted to pursue law enforcement. "I was always interested in law enforcement, because I always wanted to do something within human trafficking or crimes against children. I had a friend who was trafficked before and that stuck with me."
Her friend’s experience left a lasting impact on her. She carries that with her today, knowing how deeply trauma can affect a person’s mental health. She is determined to be someone who can support others through such difficult experiences.
At HCSO, Deputy Lopez appreciates the sense of belonging she has found. Though she considers herself introverted, her Patrol Unit team makes her feel comfortable being more outgoing and fully herself. Her work as an SRO adds another meaningful dimension to her service. She enjoys connecting with students and feels her age helps her relate to them in a genuine, approachable way.
As the Sheriff’s Office celebrates Police Week, Deputy Lopez reflects on the importance of the work. She hopes that every interaction, on the road or in the school halls, makes a positive difference in someone’s life.
