We are asking for the public’s help locating an SUV connected to a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on southbound Highway 252 near 73rd Avenue in Brooklyn Park.

Investigators are looking for a dark gray 2016-2019 Toyota RAV4, similar to the stock photos provided, with:
• Front passenger-side bumper damage.
• Missing passenger-side mirror.
• Missing passenger-side fog lamp.
• Damaged passenger-side door rain guard.

What began as a trip to the Boundary Waters last week quickly changed when a canoe capsized, leaving two people stranded in the wilderness with no gear to make it through the night.

Our Minnesota Air Rescue Team (MART) was called to assist when water levels and strong currents complicated ground rescue efforts.

Our pilots and Saint Paul Fire Department rescuers successfully lifted the stranded pair to safety and flew them to the Ely Airport.

This mission marked a major milestone for MART, our first nighttime hoist rescue.

Extra seat belt enforcement is happening around Minnesota as the summer travel season picks up.

Too often, crashes turn deadly because someone wasn’t wearing a seat belt. Buckling up takes just seconds but remains the most effective way to protect yourself and your passengers in a crash.

Congratulations to our explorers for their outstanding showing at the Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Association State Conference in Rochester last month.

Our explorers competed alongside dozens of other participants from across Minnesota and beyond in a variety of law enforcement scenarios and competitions. They placed in the top five across six categories.

We’re incredibly proud of these future leaders and the way they represented our agency.

The fishing opener is almost here. For many Minnesotans, that means hitting the road with a boat in tow.

Before heading to the lake, take a few minutes to make sure your trailer is road-ready:

Check that all trailer lights are working properly. Make sure the hitch is secure and locked, with safety chains or cables properly attached. Confirm that your boat is safely secured to your trailer and any gear won’t shift or fall out while driving.

A quick check before you leave can prevent crashes and dangerous debris on the roadway. Make sure the only surprise this weekend is what’s on the end of your line.
