This Older Americans Month, we’re celebrating how nutrition supports healthy aging.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans remind us that as we age, our bodies need:
🥦 More nutrient-dense foods (like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains)
🥛 Adequate protein to maintain strength
💧 Proper hydration—don’t forget to drink water throughout the day
🧂 Less sodium, added sugars, and saturated fats

Across Minnesota, community meal programs help older adults put these guidelines into action—supporting health, independence, and connection.

Small, consistent choices can make a big difference. This May, take a step to Champion Your Health.

Assistive technology like grab bars, mobility aids, and smart home devices support people in every environment. These tools not only support aging in place but also ease the stress of people who are caregiving by adding an extra layer of safety and peace of mind. The Minnesota STAR Program offers a statewide lending library for borrowing and exploring assistive technology.
