New dog park opens in St. Paul!

The High Bridge Dog Park is a 7-acre, former coal power plant site that was given to the City for operation as a dog-park following clean-up in May 2012. Thanks to a land-use agreement with Xcel Energy/NSP-Minnesota, the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department operates the High Bridge Dog Park (officially opens on May 31, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.). Normal dog park rules apply and the prime property is located just south of Shepard Road, west of Upper Landing, north of the River, and just beneath the Smith Ave High Bridge.

With this great weather, I'm not sure a movie would be on the top of my list for this weekend. However, the Hunger Games makes its debut today and I'm sure the theaters will be busy. I drove by the Highland Park theater before the 4pm showing and there was lots of activity!

It you love architecture and history, you will cherish Larry Millet's new book, "Once There were Castles: Lost Mansions and Estates of the Twin Cities". Millet is speaking at the Minnesota History Center tomorrow, March 20th at 7pm. His stories of the great mansions which once graced our neigbhorhoods are mesmerizing. Do you know that one of the most magnificent estate's in St. Paul's history was located near St. Clair Avenue and Mississippi River Blvd? Stonebridge, as it was know, was a 28 acre estate with 2 ponds and a 20,000 square foot mansion. Millet will be talking about this estate as well as many others. I guarantee it will be a great evening!

The 46th Annual St. Patrick's Day parade is being held downtown St. Paul on Saturday, March 17th, beginning at noon. Saturday is going to be warm, but unfortunately there is a chance of showers so come prepared. Have fun and stay safe!

Looking for something to do this Saturday? The Macalester-Groveland & Highland Park Home Improvement Fair is taking place from 10:00am-3:00pm at Cretin-Derham Hall. There are numerous workshops taking place throughout the day, including, "Basement Finishing in an Older Home", "Bathrooms on a Budget", "Old Windows-Repair or Replace" and much more. There is also a trade show where you can speak with local remodelers, designers and other home improvement professionals. If you are thinking of making some improvements to your home, this is not to be missed!
