AmeriCorps Promise Fellows support students in engaging in school and learning. Serve a term with AmeriCorps or bring a volunteer to YOUR school in the 26.27 academic year!

"I had a student who was very reserved when we first started meeting. Our conversations felt very one-sided for a while, and I was worried that I wasn’t effectively connecting with her. But over time, she slowly began to open up to me. She now comes to my office with so much to share about her classes and life, and she told me that I was the first person she had shown her music to. I have also seen her go from failing the majority of her classes to working to pass all of them last quarter. She has also made good progress in improving her attendance and advocating for herself and her needs to her teachers." -Claudia, AmeriCorps Promise Fellow serving at MPS Edison High School

For Quinn Riley, the decision to join AmeriCorps was easy. After graduating from St. Olaf College in 2025, she was curious about both teaching and social work but unsure of her long-term career goals. “I needed time to figure it out and AmeriCorps allows you to do that ... there’s so many options for service.”

But Quinn isn’t the first person in her family to join AmeriCorps- Read about this extraordinary gamily dedicated to service!

"As a student, my greatest concern is for the well-being of my peers. Commercial to***co and ni****ne products harm brain development, damage the lungs, worsen mental health issues and promote long-term addiction. Youth usage is not a small problem. Over 2.25 million middle and high school students across the U.S. reported current use of to***co products, including more than 15% of Minnesota high schoolers."
- Shivam Srivastava, Minnesota Youth Council Representative

"Have you heard of Dubai chocolate?" high school sophomore Shivam Srivastava writes. "There is a Dubai chocolate v**e, too."

April 13–17 is Youth Voice Week. Youth voice matters—not only because young people deserve to be heard, but because sharing power is essential to building strong developmental relationships. When students have meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions that shape their lives, schools and programs become more responsive, equitable, and relationship-rich.

Great news from the MN Minnesota Department of Education! For decades, the Alliance's AmeriCorps Promise Fellows have supported students with academic engagement and school attendance and on-time high school graduation. We look forward to continued success for Minnesota students!

Slightly up from last year’s data, 84.9% of Minnesota high school students graduated in four years.

Attendance isn't just a school problem. It is a transportation, health, and housing problem. For too long, Minnesota has expected schools to solve these complex social issues in isolation. EdAllies is advocating for an Interagency Council on Attendance (HF3585), a collaborative cohort designed to bring state agencies and decision-makers together to address the root causes of absenteeism.

Listen into the hearing today in House Education Finance at 1pm to hear details and testimony about the bill!

Congrats to Minnesota Youth Council Representative Feven for being selected as one of two MN delegates to the US Senate Youth Program!

Great meeting two of Minnesota’s delegates to the U.S. Senate Youth Program—Feven from Burnsville High and Ayoub from Owatonna High—in Washington this week.

They’re among 104 impressive student leaders selected from across the country, and it was a great getting to hear about their goals for the future.
