DAV Department of Minnesota

DAV Department of Minnesota Keeping Our Promise to America's Veterans Fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served.

We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to

civilian life. Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other agencies of government. Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically. Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government. Extending DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local chapters. Providing a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.

Every veteran carries a story worth remembering.

United in Service is about creating a place for those stories — the service, sacrifice, people and experiences that stay with us long after the uniform comes off.

This October, step inside a tribute experience created to honor Minnesota’s veterans and the people who have stood beside them.

We had 23 members show up to help us load the semi. We were blessed to have a new member join in and help, along with the DAV Department Commander. Our great volunteers unloaded 4 enclosed trailers in less than 2 hours. Thank you everyone.

Last weekend, we got to participate in a fishing event for DAV Chapter 18 up at High Banks Resort on beautiful Lake Winnibigoshish. On Saturday, he weather was a little gnarly, with strong winds making it unsafe to launch boats at the resort. Evan, the owner, contacted a Four Seasons Resort, located where the Mississippi comes into the lake on the west side, who allowed us to trailer over and safely launch all of our boats and get the veterans out on the water. Their staff did a fantastic job of adapting to the situation and making it happen. Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day on the water. Lots of fish were caught each day, stories were shared, and great memories were made! Thank you to Evan, Tali, and the staff at High Banks for hosting and bending over backwards to accommodate everyone and take care of us, to the guides who volunteered and put the veterans on lots of fish, and to Chapter 18 for hosting such a great event!
