A jury has reached a verdict: no excessive force.

But the timeline raises serious questions.

She became unresponsive.
She stopped moving.
Minutes passed.

Then deputies said she was “playing possum.”
Medics were told the same.

She wasn’t checked right away.
Only later, a medic said: “we have an airway issue.”

The body camera footage shows what happened.

Watch it. Decide for yourself.

🚨 TRIAL STARTS TODAY — APRIL 13, 2026

A federal jury trial has officially begun in the case of Nekeya Moody, a 28-year-old woman who died after an encounter with Ramsey County deputies in February 2020.

⚖️ This trial will focus on what happened in the final minutes before she became unresponsive.

What the jury will decide:
Whether excessive force was used after Nekeya stopped resisting
Whether deputies showed deliberate indifference to her medical condition
Whether those actions led to her wrongful death
What has already been ruled:
A federal judge found that a jury could determine her rights were violated
The case is now centered on specific actions taken by deputies on scene
Claims about broader department policy have already been dismissed
Key issues:
The moment Nekeya stopped moving
Continued restraint and pressure
Lack of clear communication to paramedics

Now, a jury will review the evidence — including body camera footage — and decide what happened, and who is responsible.

💙💜UPDATE!💙💜
THE FAMILY OF NEKEYA MOODY ARE CLOSER TO ACHIEVING A PIECE OF JUSTICE FOR RAMSEY COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTIES KILLING KEYA!!!!

From Paul Bosman, the family’s attorney: Nekeya Moody was one of five children and the mother of five of her own. When friends called her an ambulance for her, Ramsey County Sheriff’s deputies entered the apartment to make sure it was safe. They restrained Nekeya, placed weight on her back after she stopped resisting, cuffed her on her belly, and when she became unresponsive, failed to provide necessary medical attention. Yesterday the Federal Court denied most of Ramsey County’s motion to dismiss the family’s lawsuit, finding that one deputy may have violated Nekeya’s Constitutional rights, and denying that deputy qualified immunity. Nekeya’s mother, grandmother, siblings, and children move toward justice for the loss of Nekeya. Nekeya died.
