Harding "Knight Navy" Njrotc

Harding "Knight Navy" Njrotc NJROTC is an elective course offered at Harding Senior High School. Its objective is to teach citizenship and leadership values to high school students.

In Brief) JROTC is a military based-class throughout many high schools in the nation. The military branches: Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy each has their own respective, individual JROTC programs that is represented by different private and public schools. However, our JROTC program is one of the many schools that represents the Navy. Students in NJROTC, are referred to as a "cadet". They ar

e given the opportunity to learn leadership and citizenship values and ethics that guides them not only in high school, but hopefully in life as well. These (leadership and citizenship)opportunities are: volunteering around communities and schools in the areas of light Labor work at community events (run games, fun-houses, and set-up/clean-up), environmental perseverance, and fundraising money for the unit. Cadets - over the course of the school year - are often advanced/promoted to encourage them to keep up the amazing service they give back to their communities. Also, to give them more responsibilities to carry on and manage for the better of the unit. In addition, cadets are highly encouraged to join JROTC competition teams such as: Armed and Unarmed Drill, Armed and Unarmed Exhibition Drill, Academic Team, Physical Fitness Team, Color Guard Team, and Orienteering Team. Fun is definitely not left out of our priorities. Because what you have just read up there, seems like a lot of work. Cadets are given an opportunity to compete and travel as well as participate in parades. We compete in Sports, Drill, and Orienteering competitions in different areas in and out of Saint Paul. For our annual regional competition, the cadets will take a coach bus down to Chicago,Illinois to compete against (usually) 15 - 18 high schools with a NJROTC program. For our sports competition, the first one is held at Harding and the second one is held at Fargo South High School in Fargo, North Dakota. There are also fun SPECIAL EVENTS such as: our Battalion Potluck, Awards Ceremony, Picnic, and Military Ball. In summary, NJROTC creates an atmosphere of students who comes together to accomplish great things for themselves, their communities, and future. We are a tight-knit family, and we want you to get the best experience and enjoy the rest of your high school years! For More information about NJROTC - http://www.njrotc.navy.mil

This past weekend Harding's NJROTC Unit from Saint Paul, Minnesota competed at Area 3's annual drill meet down in Great Lakes, Illinois, competing with 16 other schools in the Midwest. The meet consisted of academic, Personal Inspection, Physical Training, Unarmed and Armed Drill, Color Guard, and Unarmed and Armed Exhibition. There may have been many losses this year, but that did not stop them from again placing 3rd place overall. With the loss, the unit will take initiative to improve and do even better next year as they always do.
There were many gains as well. One of them was the Color Guard team coming in first, a goal of there's since placing 2nd last year at the meet. The team consists of 4 young, bright, ambitious sophomore girls who practiced every morning before school started, from 0630 to 0715.
A piece of advice from Cadet Petty Officer First Class Yang, Right Guard.
"In order to perform well, you have to have a good communication system with your team. If you think you and your team and do better in a specific area, speak up. Your opinion matters and it can determine between winning 1st or 2nd place. It takes a lot of effort, dedication, and motivation to sharpen everything. There will be days where you don’t want to put the effort and energy during practice, and that is OKAY. Just make sure to recharge yourself and be prepared to work hard again the next day. The best thing you can do during your performance is to believe in yourself and the your team. Encourage each other. You can’t control the judges, remember that. Winning and losing is just a title you put on a performance. Don’t let the mistakes define your team. Failure (or losing) is just a step away from success."

Harding's NJROTC unit may be small, but that doesn't stop them from doing great big things ❤⚓.
