The Olmstead Plan works to move Minnesota forward, so that people with disabilities have more choices about where they live, learn, work, and enjoy life and are more integrated into their communities.

Have you or your child experienced seclusion at school? Your story matters. University of Minnesota researchers are seeking people willing to share their experiences with seclusion of children with disabilities, including:

• Parents/caregivers of children secluded within the last 5 years
• Adults who experienced seclusion as a child
• Educators (teachers, administrators, counselors, social workers, nurses, paraprofessionals and more)

The study focuses on Minnesota, but participants from other states are welcome. Future participation may include children under 18. Sharing your story can help improve policies and practices.

Calling all Title I ADA Coordinators, Human Resources accommodations personnel, college and university ADA coordinators, managers, supervisors, union stewards, and employees with disabilities concerned about employment rights!

Join MCD for the “ADA Title I Employment Training” Brown Bag Lunch on May 11th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. This free, virtual event will provide informative, practical insights into ADA Title I compliance.

Sessions titled “Just ask JAN! We can help,” “Making Flexible Work-Work, ADA and Flexible Work Arrangements,” and “Increasing Effectiveness as a Title I Coordinator,” led by presenters from the Job Accommodation Network and the Great Lakes ADA Center.

The English version of the public comment survey for the Olmstead Plan draft closes this Friday, May 8! Surveys in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, and ASL are open through May 23. Staff from OIO and the Minnesota Commission of the Deaf, DeafBlind & Hard of Hearing visited Metro Deaf School earlier this week. We had a wonderful time learning about the school and students, and seeing the inclusive design elements and art throughout the building. Thank you MDS for the great tour!

The public comment survey for the Olmstead Plan draft is open! Feedback from this survey will be used by agency staff and consultants with lived experience of disability to update and finalize the goals. The goals of the draft plan are split up into seven topics: crisis services, education, employment, health & safety, housing, transit & transportation, and transition.
