Our hearts are with our extended law enforcement family at the Minnesota State Patrol as they mourn the loss of one of their own.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Lt. Tyler Uthe, a respected leader, a dedicated servant and friend. His loss is being felt deeply across our agency and by all who had the privilege to serve alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Tyler’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow troopers during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy as they grieve.

As we mourn Tyler’s loss, we are reminded that even those who spend their lives helping others sometimes need help themselves. No one should have to carry life's challenges alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline for support.

Tyler’s impact on this agency and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.

HOMICIDE UPDATE: Saint Paul Police officers have arrested Omar Andres Ramos Castro, 24, of Saint Paul, in relation to the May 25, 2026, homicide on the 1400 block of Case Avenue. Ramos Castro has been charged with second-degree murder by the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.

Statement from Chief Axel Henry:

“This case is one of the clearest examples I have ever seen about the talent and tenacity of our officers, investigators, and our professional staff. Starting with almost no evidence, those involved conducted an investigation which led to an arrest and a confession. The family of Gabriel Arrazola Perez can never replace this loss, but at least we can offer them some justice. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this case and please continue to support Gabriel’s family however you can.”

Please take a moment to remember James and his family.

We will never forget him or the sacrifice he made.

“It’s one of the most honorable things you can do – to honor a person and enshrine their name and literally carve it in stone. But it’s also the thing that you pray the whole time you have your job you’re never going to have to do.” – Chief Axel Henry

Chief Henry and members of the department traveled to Washington D.C. last week to support the family of fallen Saint Paul Police Officer Felicia Reilly as her name was added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall and honored during the 38th annual Candlelight Vigil on the National Mall.

Officer Reilly, her family, and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.
