Here’s a look at our latest Docked Drone Program (DDP) statistics. During the past two weeks, this technology has assisted in the apprehension of three individuals who were seen pulling out copper streetlight wires, as well as another individual suspected of starting a fire near a school.

It’s no secret that copper wire is stolen out of street lights in Saint Paul.

Last weekend, Eastern District officers were near Arcade Street when they spotted three adult males near a street light that had the wires exposed. The officer requested assistance from SPPD’s Real Time Information Center (RTIC).

RTIC launched a drone and observed the men start pulling the wire out of the access point on the street lights.

Officers arrived to where RTIC reported the crime to be happening, and one man fled on foot. RTIC drones were able to keep a visual on him and share location with the officers.

Officers took the men into custody, and recovered a fi***rm on the man who fled. They were arrested on various charges, to include felony criminal damage to property and possession of a fi***rm with an altered serial number.

This is a great collaboration by our officers on the street and in RTIC. Without the docked drone program, these copper wire thieves would likely not have been arrested while the crime occurred. Good work!

You couldn’t have asked for better weather for national ‘Walk to School Day!’ We loved getting the chance to greet students from 10 different schools across the city yesterday.

In addition to promoting physical activity, ‘Walk to School Day’ gives us a chance to promote traffic safety awareness. Please help us protect our youngest pedestrians by slowing down, driving distraction free, and staying alert – especially near our schools.

Meet two unique teams who share a special connection.

Officer Emily Higgins and Zara specialize in narcotics detection, with Zara being the only female K9 in the department.

Officer Sean Higgins and Darby specialize in fi***rms detection, with Darby being the first and only dog of his kind in Saint Paul.

Coincidentally, Emily and Sean don’t just share a bond to serve with purpose, they’re also siblings.

We need your help locating 15-year-old Daymareion Comer.

Daymareion was reported missing on Saturday around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Maryland Avenue East and Hazelwood Street.

Officers have been actively searching for Daymareion since his family reported him missing to us. Daymareion has autism, is non-verbal, and only responds to the name “Day Day.”
