Hey guys! Next Monday we will be hosting some DFL speakers from the Minnesota Legislature to discuss the policy issue of reproductive rights in Minnesota!

The event will be from 12:30-2pm in West Hall 200. The event will focus on the pro-choice policies of the DFL and how to best safeguard those rights in the future. Students are also encouraged to come to the event to ask questions or state opinions.

We will also be providing Jimmy John's!

Finally, let’s meet our secretary!

Mohamed is a sophomore at Hamline University majoring in History and minoring in Political Science, and this is his first year as an Executive Board member for Hamline Dems. Alongside this he is also an Resident Assistant on Campus. Mohamed is also involved in other student organizations around campus such as being a Sophomore Class Representative that serves on the Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress. He is also a general member of Hamline’s Mock Trial team. Mohamed hopes to get involved in more school orgs this school year. In his freetime Mohamed loves to read books that pertain to history. Through his instreat of history he found politics. The need to bring the change to create a better society for everyone drives his passion for politics.

Let’s meet our treasurer!

Kylie is a second-year and senior at Hamline University, and this is her first year as an Executive Board member for Hamline Dems! Along with this Kylie will be serving on the exec board with Hamline IGNITE, as well as a second-year representative on Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress. In addition to this Kylie also participates on our Mock Trial team here at Hamline. Going into her second year here at Hamline she is really interested in joining even more orgs while balancing her job as a full time business marketing student and Starbucks barista. Her passion for politics drives her to work on various grassroots campaigns within the small town area that she grew up in, and if you see her ever in the early part of November she will likely be sporting something that represents these campaigns. Kylie’s favorite study spot on campus is the third floor outdoor terrace of Ando, so stop by during the school year to say hi!

Next up, our Vice President!

Asma’a is a sophomore at Hamline University, and this is her first year as an Executive Board member for Hamline Dems. Along with Hamline Dems, Asma’a is also on the Executive Board for Hamline’s First Generation Scholars and is the Programming Chair. She can also be found volunteering at nonprofits that mostly focus on humanitarian aid when she’s not at school or working. In her free time, she likes to go on backyard trips with her brothers and act like they’re the players of their favorite soccer team or going on shopping trips with her friends (but would end up buying only one top). Her major is currently undecided so her answer to that question varies depending on the day of the week. She’s only been on campus a few times, so if you see her wandering around, don’t be scared to offer her some help!

We’re so excited to start introducing you to our 2021-2022 executive board! First up, our President!

Makayla is a junior at Hamline University and this is her third year as an Executive Board member for Hamline Dems. The past two years, Makayla was the treasurer, but this year she is very excited to be the President! In addition to Hamline Dems, Makayla is also on the Executive Board for the Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress where she is the current Student Organizations Committee Chair. She has also participated in Model United Nations on campus. When not working with various student orgs or on homework, she can usually be found volunteering at Hamline Elementary with Reading Partners Twin Cities or working on campus at Student Administrative Services. In her free time, Makayla enjoys going for runs, traveling, and petting dogs. Her favorite place to travel to is Walt Disney World or Disneyland, and if you see her around campus, there is a good chance that she may be wearing some sort of Disney apparel.
