Someone shared this with me. I don't think is only ATT but it might affect all carriers, as the update is for all iPhones.
In the last month our data went wacky. We have 15 GB for our family and we usually never go over that as most of our phone use is on Wifi. Since the last update just this billing cycle we were hit with 3 GB of overages at $15 a pop. So I called AT&T and asked why this was happening as multiple times we got the overage messages we were in our home on wifi.
The agent with our service provider explained that Apple put a new feature into our phones with the last update and you guessed it, when you hit agree to the terms and conditions this new feature was listed in there which protects them and your service provider. Yes, yes, yes, it was in the terms and conditions, but who honestly reads those 9,000 pages written in Greek? Nobody!
It's shown on the picture and it's called Wifi Assist. This "assists" your wifi speed by using your data simultaneously. This is crazy because the whole reason for wifi is to NOT use your data... NOPE, not with this new update. This is just a crap way to over charge people. So when I called AT&T they said that they can add a new plan feature and retro the charges but it's more per month and our old data plan isn't available anymore. What a joke. Check your phones people!
So go into your settings, the click cellular data and scroll all the way to the bottom and turn off the wifi assist.
Just thought I would let everyone know!
