PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
SPPD NEEDS YOUR HELP!

As most of you probably heard yesterday, there was a terrible incident in Old NE involving two vehicles between 17th Avenue NE and Bay Street. The known individuals involved are not from Old NE, and police believe this to be a random, isolated incident, and not one we need to be on alert for the safety of our neighborhood.

We have been updated by our local Police officers and City Representatives that they are still in search of surveillance video within the neighborhood that may show either the 2012 blue Hyundai Santa Fe, the black Convertible BMW, or any interaction coming North down Bay Street NE that the two vehicles may have had before the incident at 17th Avenue NE. The Hyundai also drove East down 17th Avenue NE toward Beach Drive, but may have cut back through the neighborhood. If you live anywhere in Old NE and have video surveillance, we would appreciate if you check your cameras between 4-5PM yesterday for any activity.

Should you have video to report, you can contact SPPD at 727-893-7780 or text the video to TIP411. Any general questions regarding Old Northeast can be directed to [email protected] or submitted on our website at www.honna.org.

ATTN RESIDENTS BETWEEN 5TH AVE & 9TH AVE NORTH/NORTHEAST: New Residential Parking Permits Need to be Obtained for 2019

HONNA's Traffic & Parking Committee would like to remind all residents/owners, who live in the Old Northeast's Residential Parking Permit (RPP) zone, that now is the time to obtain their 2019 permits. With the RPP expansion that took effect on January 1, 2019, the RPP Zone is from 5th Avenue N/NW to 9th Avenue N/NW and from Beach Drive to 3rd Street N. Both the vehicle permits and the visitor permits are marked with the year, so new permits need to be obtained for 2019.

To obtain 2019 permits, residents/owners will need to bring the required documents to the Parking Citation Payment Office, 301 Central Avenue North (NW corner of 3rd Street and Central Avenue). For most residents, the required documents are a driver's license and a vehicle registration, both with an RPP zone address. The Parking Citation Payment Office is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. The cost is $15/vehicle.

January 2019 is a grace period for getting the 2019 permits. During this grace period, 2018 permits will be acceptable in the previously existing RPP zone (5th Avenue N to 8th Avenue N), and no permit will be required in the RPP expansion zone (9th Avenue N and "streets" between 8th Avenue N and 9th Avenue N). Enforcement of the 2019 permits will start on February 1, 2019.

http://www.stpete.org/transportation/parking_management/residential_parking_program.php

The Residential Parking Program Permit provides downtown dwellers parking close to home, exemptions to regular posted parking time limits and fees incurred from metered parking.

HONNA Public Safety Committee Holds Meeting About Recent Crime

HONNA's Public Safety Committee held a meeting with our Neighborhood Police Officer, Officer Herring, on Thursday Feb. 8 to discuss crime and public safety in The Old Northeast. The recent attempted kidnapping on Coffee Pot Boulevard was discussed. As reported in the 2/9 Tampa Bay Times, officers are being stationed in The ONE and patrols are being conducted to make sure that people are safe during their morning walks and workouts.

The committee also discussed ways that HONNA could help to get out information that would help residents remain vigilant about reducing the chances of being victims of crime. We will continue to post important information and alerts on NextDoor, our HONNA page, and our website.

02/08/2018

Dear Neighbors,

This happened today in our neighborhood, and we are so thankful that the young woman was not injured or taken. While the situation could have been a lot worse, we are urging neighbors to use caution when out and about in the hours of darkness. We also want to remind everyone to call 911 in the event of an emergency, or to call SPPD on their non-emergency line at 727-893-7780 to report any suspicious activity.

Also, we encourage neighbors with cameras (as part of your security systems, doorbells, etc) to register your camera with the SPPD's Eagle Eye program, http://police.stpete.org/cache/Eagle-eye2.html, as this may help catch criminals or even obtain valuable information that can lead to their arrest.

Stay safe and proactive on crime in our neighborhood! For more information on our website, please visit www.honna.org

Attempted Kidnapping

At 5:50 a.m., a 23 year old woman was jogging south on the sidewalk in the 2100 block of Coffee Pot Blvd. N.E., when a man in car approached her.

After asking for directions, he pulled out a handgun and told her to get in the car. The victim was able to run away and was not harmed.

We are searching for a burnt orange crossover vehicle, possibly a Toyota Scion. We have a limited description of the suspect: a black man with dreadlocks wearing a black t-shirt.

Anyone with information, should call police at 893-7780. Report #2018-005625
