On Friday evening, May 22nd, tragedy struck another family impacted by gun violence.
Gaige Santos-Brown was a 14 year old child, who alongside the three teenagers who attacked him, should've been in a safe place where they can play, learn, and just be. π€Έπ½βΉπ½ββοΈπ―ββοΈπ¨π½βπ¨
As the funnels more money into the police and claims we don't have enough in the budget for the youth, fewer resources are going back into communities in dire need. Save Our Streets is one initiative meant to get money back into the community by covering the cost of summer programs and creating a team going door to door guiding families on programs currently available in the city.
This hands on approach helps alleviate the stress of navigating a complicated system and allows parents to ask questions and remove obstacles that prevent youth from accessing programs today.
Gaige deserves to be alive, and the city clearly ain't doing enough to make sure this never happens again.
We must pressure the city of St. Pete to prioritize Save Our Streets and other people's budget items until we have a just and equitable society. βπ½
