We are a group of young people fighting for a safer and liberated Florida.

05/28/2026

On Friday evening, May 22nd, tragedy struck another family impacted by gun violence.

Gaige Santos-Brown was a 14 year old child, who alongside the three teenagers who attacked him, should've been in a safe place where they can play, learn, and just be. πŸ€ΈπŸ½β›ΉπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ‘―β€β™‚οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸŽ¨

As the funnels more money into the police and claims we don't have enough in the budget for the youth, fewer resources are going back into communities in dire need. Save Our Streets is one initiative meant to get money back into the community by covering the cost of summer programs and creating a team going door to door guiding families on programs currently available in the city.

This hands on approach helps alleviate the stress of navigating a complicated system and allows parents to ask questions and remove obstacles that prevent youth from accessing programs today.

Gaige deserves to be alive, and the city clearly ain't doing enough to make sure this never happens again.

We must pressure the city of St. Pete to prioritize Save Our Streets and other people's budget items until we have a just and equitable society. ✊🏽

Join us for our Books and Breakfast program on Saturday, May 30! This month, we are honoring African Liberation Day - a day to celebrate Pan-Africanism and that we are united through our struggles ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 We commemorate how African countries fought for their independence and together we'll learn how they continue to defend against colonialism and practice inter-dependence across the African continent 🌍

A tradition of African Liberation Day is to wear white as a symbol of unity, so please wear white! 🀍

AI is quickly becoming a normal part of our lives. From 'smart technology' murdering civilians, to environmental destruction, to accumulating more wealth for the billionaires, to ICE weaponizing our data, to writing college papers and replacing jobs, AI is expanding into every facet imaginable. What does it really mean for our communities? What can we do to combat it? What does a more just future with AI look like? Join Bay Area Dream Defenders for this month's Books & Breakfast for a conversation about our future with technology that prioritizes the people, not the corporations.

The youth need us in their corner!

On Monday, April 13 at 6pm, St. Pete City Council is having the first Open House to hear from constituents about how they're gonna use OUR money.

We need to show up and demand council members and the mayor prioritize accessible equitable youth programming! Share what community hungers for most.

❀️ February Recap ❀️

We started off the month with expanding our General Body Meeting to the Tampa side! We watched together a video about our Freedom Papers - our North Star that guides our work - and discussed what does Freedom of Movement mean in this stage of ICE terrorizing our communities and how we can envision a world where everyone has the freedom to move. 🌎

Canvassed at the annual Tampa Bay Collards Green Festival to share upcoming events! πŸ₯¬

Ended the month with our Books and Breakfast program & collaborated with , in honor of Black History Month, to hear the story of Andrew Joseph III and how we can support families affected by police violence by petitioning to end qualified immunity and building a world towards abolition. ⛓️‍πŸ’₯

JANUARY RECAP ❗❗❗

We started 2026 grounding ourselves in the love of the people through MLK's 6 principles of nonviolence. These principles do not mean to be passive and do nothing. They remind us that REAL peace is not the lack of conflict, but the presence of justice.

At our general body meeting, we prepped for the annual St. Pete MLK parade by creating art together. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸŽ¨

We marched in the parade alongside chanting, "Save Our Streets, From Palestine to St. Pete!" with spectators echoing our message. They, like many of us, understand how intrinsically linked our struggles are. πŸ–€πŸ€β€οΈπŸ’šπŸ’›

As part of the New Year's Revolution hosted by .cat, we raised awareness about Palestine, concrete next steps to take action here, and $1,300 to send directly to Gaza πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ we know the "ceasefire" is a fallacy and that we cannot stop until complete liberation from the river to the sea 🌊

At Books & Breakfast we were honored to learn from one of our community elders, Mr. Jim Oliver, who studied MLK and shared the same mentor πŸ–€πŸ’›

He reminded us that in these escalated times, we cannot go back to β€œnormal”. We must build towards a world where justice is at the center and that we come from a place of compassion, courage, and community. πŸ’•

Everyone deserves to feel safe, especially our children. Safety means freedom, connection, and the chance to dream without fear. Together, we can create the St. Pete we all deserve. ✊🏾 Sign the Save Our Streets petition in the bio. The fight continues.
