Two native plants that are blooming at the Jungle Prada Site now are Fiddlewood and Jamaican Caper.
Did you know that the capers we eat on bagels are pickled, unopened flower buds of the Mediterranean caper plant? These Jamaican capers make pretty flowers, and they're the host plant for Florida white butterflies, but they are not eaten despite being closely related to the edible caper.
The Tocobaga shell mound is covered with native species, but also some non-native volunteers. Sometime soon I'd love to host a volunteer cleanup pulling weeds on the mound, so if anyone is up for a couple of hours of dirty work (literally) at a historic landmark please message me your best availability.
