SGFD is always happy to assist with PR events or standbys when we can.

We are a unpaid volunteer fire department with limited resources and may not always be able to staff events due to manpower availability. Just like the citizens in our area we have full time jobs and family responsibilities that take up most of our time. If you would like to request SGFD for PR events or standbys please call our fire house at 573-883-5321 at least 2 weeks prior with the date, time

and event info. We will get back to you as soon as possible and let you know if we are able to attend. Thank you!

As we all spend time with our families this weekend, we ask you to take a moment and remember the reason for the day. Remember all of those who gave all for our freedom and can no longer spend time with their families so we can spend time with ours.

We have heard some questions about the tornado sirens and when they activate. The Ste Genevieve County Fire District made a good post about the system and how it works. Please see the shared post.

Remember that even if there is a siren close to you, they are designed only to be an outside notification system and you may not be able to hear them inside your home or other buildings.

The best way to receive notifications of dangerous weather is the NOAA WEATHER ALERT RADIOS. They make plug in units for your home and battery operated portable units. The cost for the radio is minimal to insure the safety of you and your family

There when you need us!

Good morning,

We’ve received several questions regarding why the tornado sirens did or did not activate during last night’s tornado warning.

The outdoor warning siren system is designed to activate only in the areas directly impacted by the warning. This means that if the portion of the storm capable of producing a tornado is located in one part of Ste. Genevieve County, only the sirens in that specific area will sound. Sirens in other parts of the county may not activate if they are outside the warned area.

This is intentional and helps ensure that warnings are targeted to those most at risk.

We hope this helps clarify any concerns and reassures those who may have thought there was a malfunction with the siren system.

Stay weather aware and have a safe day.

St. Francois County 911 Celebrates National

Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
April 12–18

St. Francois County 911 proudly recognizes and celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 12 through April 18, honoring the dedicated men and women who serve as the vital link between the community and emergency services.
Public safety telecommunicators—often the unseen first responders—work around the clock to answer emergency calls, dispatch critical services, and provide lifesaving instructions during some of the most stressful moments in a person’s life. Their professionalism, compassion, and quick thinking are essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

Every day, St. Francois County 911 telecommunicators demonstrate unwavering commitment, handling a wide range of emergency and non-emergency calls with precision and care. Whether coordinating responses for law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, these individuals play a crucial role in public safety.

“Telecommunicators are the calm voice in chaos,” said Director Alan Wells. “Their dedication and ability to remain composed under pressure make a profound difference in emergency situations. This week, we proudly recognize their service and thank them for their continued commitment to our community.”

St. Francois County 911 encourages residents to take a moment during this week to acknowledge and appreciate the hardworking professionals who answer the call when it matters most.
