🎶 Community Music Spotlight: MACT Meeting & Jam Night at Barrow Brewing 🎶

The Salado Music Friendly Community is proud to spotlight a great night of live music, connection, and community happening right here in Salado.

Join the Music Association of Central Texas — MACT for a Meeting & Jam Night** at Barrow Brewing Co. on Monday, June 8th at 6:00 PM.

MACT has been helping support and connect musicians across Central Texas since 1999. The organization was created to recognize and develop local talent, provide networking opportunities, host meetings and music events, and support the people involved in live music throughout the Central Texas area. MACT also hosts jams, competitions, musician spotlights, festivals, and monthly member meetings.

That mission lines up perfectly with what we are working to build here in Salado: a stronger, more connected live music community where musicians, venues, businesses, and fans all have a place at the table.

A big thank you to Barrow Brewing Co. for hosting this event and for continuing to be one of Salado’s most active supporters of live music. Barrow has helped make Salado a destination for music, craft beer, community events, and good times on the creek.

Whether you are a musician, singer, songwriter, venue owner, music fan, or someone who simply wants to support local music, this is a great night to show up, meet people, and be part of the Central Texas music scene.

Today, we honor the birthday of the best fiddlers to ever pickup the instrument. In our view, he was the greatest. He's in the Country Music Hall if Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and collected Grammy awards, Musician of The Year/Fiddler of the Year in the ACM and CMA's, and was State Musician of Texas in 2005. If there was a fiddle on a country music song in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, you can bet that Mr. Gimble's name was mentioned in the album credits. He had multiple motion picture appearances and was featured on their soundtracks as well. He was also a member of Bob Wills' Texas Playboys.
Any fiddle player over the past 50 years will credit Johnny Gimble among their influences or heroes.
We are proud that Mr. Gimble chose to live in Salado. When anyone asks us for notable people in Salado, we're always proud to remind them that Mr. Johnny Gimble called Salado home for awhile. Heck, May 30th should forever be, "Johnny Gimble Day" in Texas and Salado!

This past week, I had the privilege of being on the other side of tourism as I explored Washington, D.C. From the monuments and museums to witnessing the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, every moment was a powerful reminder that history is more than places — it’s people, stories, sacrifice, and memories woven together through art, architecture, music, and tradition.

Standing among the memorials and hearing “Taps” in the distance was both humbling and unforgettable. Every detail throughout the city told a story of courage, honor, and the generations who helped shape our nation.

As meaningful as the trip was, coming home reminded me why I love our small Texas town so much. Seeing the American and Texas flags waving proudly, returning to the warmth and charm of Salado while enjoying a concert under a Texas sunset at one of our venues in town.

Tourism is about more than destinations. It’s about connection, storytelling, and creating experiences that stay with us long after we leave. There truly is something special about sharing Salado’s beauty, history, art, music, and hospitality with visitors who travel from near and far — becoming part of the Salado story themselves.

Salado’s Historic Music Mile is ready for Memorial Day Weekend, and we need your help spreading the word.

From Thursday through Monday, live music is happening all across Salado at local venues, wineries, restaurants, bars, and gathering places. This is exactly what makes Salado special: great artists, local businesses, visitors, neighbors, and a community that shows up for live music.

Come early, stay late, shop local, eat local, drink local, and enjoy a Memorial Day Weekend full of music in Salado.

Thank you to the **Village of Salado**, **Salado Convention and Visitors Bureau**, **Salado Chamber of Commerce**, **Texas Music Office**, and the **Salado Music Friendly Community Committee** for supporting live music in Salado.
