🫟“School’s Out. Now What?”

📳Studies cited by the National Summer Learning Association estimate that more than 50% of US students experience summer learning loss.

🫟Head Start for Fall Semester?

📳School is out, but learning doesn’t have to stop.

📳Summer is a great time to:

• Catch up on missed skills
• Complete summer school work
• Prepare for a new grade level
• Build reading and writing confidence
• Get ready for SAT, ACT, AP, or dual credit courses

A few focused weeks during the summer can make the next school year much less stressful.

“Yes! I do have time”
“Let’s do it together.”

Confusion → Clarity

🫟Group work. Where one student does all the work.

One student draws dinosaurs.

One student talks about lunch.

And one student forgets the question.

Educational researchers call this “collaborative learning.”

Teachers call it Tuesday. 😅

🤓What if confusion is a sign that learning is happening?

I’ve spent more than 30 years working with students from elementary school through college, and I’ve noticed something interesting:

The moment before learning often looks a lot like confusion.

It’s the pause.

The furrowed brow.

The student who says:

“Wait… that doesn’t make sense.”

That moment isn’t always a problem to fix.

Sometimes it’s the brain realizing that an old idea no longer explains what it’s seeing.

That’s where growth begins.

As educators, tutors, parents, and coaches, our job isn’t to eliminate every moment of struggle. It’s to help learners stay with the question long enough to build understanding.

Confusion is not the destination.

But it is often the doorway.

What learning myth do you wish more people would stop believing?

🫟Great defenders don’t just react.
They recognize patterns.

The same thing happens in learning.

Strong readers spot patterns in language.
Strong writers spot patterns in ideas.
Strong students spot patterns in problems.

The more patterns your brain recognizes, the faster you can respond when it counts.

🧠 Learning and athletics have more in common than most people realize.

🎵 Wake up…

Not everything worth learning comes from a classroom.

Sometimes it comes from experience.
Sometimes it comes from failure.
Sometimes it comes from finally asking a better question.

The moment we stop learning, we stop growing.

Keep learning.
Keep questioning.
Keep showing up.

🧠 The internet says:

“Scientists found the switch causing Alzheimer’s!”

The scientist says:

“We found a possible mechanism that may help us better understand inflammation in Alzheimer’s disease.”

One of those statements is science.

The other is marketing.

The research is promising, but it’s still early. No cure. No miracle treatment. Just another important clue in understanding how the brain works.

And honestly? That’s exciting enough.
