What an honor to hear from our young folks during the Youth Roundtable at LEAP for Education in Salem, and have the chance to hear from our Attorney General, Andrea Campbell.

Golden Nuggets for me as a school committee member🪙

1) Students need more career guidance and support to understand how their academic pursuits connect to their future careers and purpose.
2) Students are seeking a more engaging and creative school experience.
3) Schools could improve their support for mental health and well-being.

For the past several months, I've had the pleasure of being a member of Salem's Innovation Advisory Committee to help map out the future of Salem Public Schools through a 10-year Innovation Vision and Agenda, and a new three year strategic plan. As part of this process, we are asking some big questions and could use your help.

We’ve created a short survey to gather community input about what students need now and what they will need in the future. What’s working? What needs to change? What would you hope to see for the next generation of Salem students? Please take five minutes to add your thoughts, and share the survey link with your networks. The AdHoc Superintendent Search Committee (Member Byas, Chair Hoffman, and myself) worked hard over the last month to do some heavy lifting on behalf of the full school committee. The AdHoc has since been dissolved, but the three of us wished to remain on the Screening Committee.

➡️Adopted/posted a position profile (job description) for the next Superintendent (deadline to apply is April 16th, 2026)

➡️Created a Superintendent Screening Committee that we felt reflected the values of our school community, with special emphasis on voices that are often left out of such important decisions:
