This past year we applied to the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley for funding that would cover our operational costs. Through their foundation $8,000 of funding was awarded by The Kennedy Family Fund, The Arnett Family Fund and the Rick Shale Fund. I cannot express how important this funding was. Prior to this most of my time was spent searching for grants and applying to those we qualified. While not a waste of time it was often time that could have been better spent on actual things that needed attention in our Library. The funding we received allowed me the ability to focus more of my time on improvements to our operation and the programs that we offer here at the library.
One of those programs includes the Summer Reading Program and its weekly Lunch with our Librarian event. Each year our program's attendance grows with leaps that I can never seem to anticipate and I am extremely thankful to the volunteer, community, township, and patron support that we get. The first year we held our summer reading program we had at most 25 kids each week. The second year's attendance blew me away with an average of 45 kids every week for 10 weeks. Yesterday was the kick off of our 3rd year and the number of families and children that we had in attendance is affirmation that people truly value the work we do here. We almost doubled last years attendance with 88 children for a total of 139 attendees!
I re-opened this library because one of my favorite memories with my oldest daughter was walking with her here each week and I wanted my two youngest to be able to have that same experience. The families that visit each week are the the reward for the time I invest. The patrons and children who carry out stacks of books, tell me about their favorite character or attend our programs are the tangible memories made that will keep our community's future generations excited about visiting the library and develop their love of reading.

Wow. Our patrons really know how to be patient when we have 23 more kids show up than we expected!
We had 88 kids for a total of 139 with the parents!
Thank you Warbucks Land Clearing and Excavating for coming out with your equipment. The The Salvation Army of Salem, Ohio stopped to get the word out about their programs and
Thank you Papa John's Pizza White House Fruit Farm Rhodes Farm Market The Brightside Project for our lunches today and thank you Suburban Miner Metal Recycling and Totally 80s Ice Ice Cream Shoppe
for sponsoring our awesome prizes for the reading goals kids will meet by the end of summer!

Now for the serious stuff: we may not always have enough lunch or crafts for extra people but everyone is welcome to attend as long as they don’t get upset if we do not have these for extra guests.

OUR FIRST WEEK IS OFFICIALLY ON STANDYBY TICKET SALES FOR CHILD PARTICIPANTS. What does that mean?
STANDBY tickets for children ages 2+ mean that your child MAY ATTEND the story time and listen to the presenter for that week but we may not have a lunch or craft for them due to the number exceeding our pre determined weekly limit.
You can still sign up as an adult or infant as those tickets are unlimited, but please bring a lunch for your group to eat.
If large families do their craft as a group or some children do not do the craft we MAY have one for your child but they must wait until registered participants complete theirs.
We would love for every child to attend our program but we have to set limits on the number of lunches and crafts we have due to costs.

Summer Reading is about to begin please RSVP for each date you plan to attend.
