Salem Youth Democrats As college students, we call for action based on principles and for principles based on action.

In order to promote a better America, with equality, opportunity, and freedom within a just and strong society, we dedicate ourselves to organizing the participation of the Chemeketa Democratic students. As Democrats, we pledge ourselves to continue the great thoughts of our Party and to bring forth new ideas to keep the tradition alive. As citizens of today and leaders of the future, we shall str

ive to shape our party, communities, states and nation. In this mission, we call for full participation without regard to s*x, race or ethnic origin, religion, physical handicap, socioeconomic status, or s*xual orientation. Understanding the importance of participation in the Democratic Party to the preservation of our values and principles, we pledge to organize and activate the latent people power of Chemeketa’s Democratic students to further the philosophy of the Democratic Party.

There will be an opportunity in March for us to work with the Willamette Academy, which is a program affiliated with Willamette University. The Willamette Academy helps gifted but under-privileged high school students get into college. Helen and I talked to Joshua Bilbrew, the Program Director, about getting Academy students involved in voter registration. He said that we could hold a workshop to tell students about our program and teach them how to register voters. We are looking for people who will talk about voter registration at this workshop. We will work out the details at the next meeting.
