Foster Care is all around you.

There are children in foster care sitting in classrooms across our community. They're on sports teams, at playgrounds, in youth groups, and walking the same halls as our own children.
In Marion and Polk Counties alone, more than 500 children and youth are experiencing foster care.
Sometimes foster care can feel like a distant issue - something happening somewhere else to someone else. The reality is much closer to home.
It's all around us.
And when we begin to understand that, something changes. Foster care stops being a statistic and starts becoming a community responsibility.
Not everyone is called to foster. But everyone can do something. What is your "yes"?

Three families. Three different stories. One shared reality: foster families cannot do this alone.
Right now, families across West Salem are saying “yes” to children who need safety, stability, and support. They need a community willing to say “yes” alongside them.
This is what Love Box looks like.
Not perfection. Not having all the answers. Just consistent, intentional support that reminds families they are not alone.
A meal.
A babysitter.
A check-in text.
A game night.
A listening ear.
Small acts of support can keep foster homes open and families encouraged.

report comes in?” 👀
In this episode of Your Foster Care Questions.
Answered., former CPS worker and current Salem
Angels Program Manager Natalie Jasinski walks
through what the process actually looks like - from
hotline calls and screening reports to home visits,
interviews, and safety assessments.
These decisions happen quickly, involve legal
oversight, and carry enormous weight for everyone
involved.
But one thing Natalie shares really stood out:

“A lot of it is getting to know our families.”

Behind every report is a real family, real concerns, and
people trying to determine the safest path forward in a
very short amount of time.

This series exists to bring more understanding, clarity,
and compassion to conversations around foster care

Hard to believe SOAR was already a month ago. 💛
We’re still reflecting on the stories shared, the generosity shown, and the incredible community that gathered together in support of children, youth, and families experiencing foster care.
It was an evening full of hope, connection, and radical support, and we’re still feeling the impact.
And somehow… SOAR 2027 will be here before we know it. ✨
