Waitlist Wednesday 💛
This young man in West Salem is preparing for one of life's biggest transitions: independent living.
He's looking for a mentor who will show up, listen well, and walk alongside him as he builds confidence for the future. Whether it's cooking a meal together, talking through life, exploring the outdoors, creating art, or just spending time together, the goal isn't perfection,it's connection.
For youth experiencing foster care, having one consistent adult in their corner can make all the difference.
A mentor won't have all the answers. They just need to be willing to show up, listen, encourage, and remind a young person that they matter.
Could that person be you—or someone you know?

📦Waitlist Wednesday📦
This week, we're highlighting a foster family of seven in Keizer. They would love the support of a Love Box team through regular check-ins, coffee dates with foster mom, play dates, community outings, and tangible items that help meet the everyday needs of a busy household.
Behind every number on our waitlist is a family saying "yes" to children who need stability, belonging, and care. Sometimes support looks like a meal. Sometimes it's a text message. Sometimes it's showing up consistently so a foster parent knows they aren't carrying the weight alone.

When a community rallies around a foster family, children thrive. Could this family be your "YES"?

📊 The statistics surrounding youth in foster care can be difficult to read.

Higher rates of alternative school attendance. Higher rates of exclusionary discipline. Lower graduation rates than any other student group.

But statistics don't tell the whole story.

Behind every number is a young person with dreams, talents, challenges, and incredible potential. And when they have one consistent adult in their corner, those outcomes can change.

This year, 100% of seniors in our Dare to Dream Program graduated.

Not because the challenges disappeared.
Not because the odds suddenly became fair.
But because someone showed up. Consistently. Month after month. Year after year.

Mentorship changes the stats because mentorship changes lives.

To the youth who graduated this year: your courage, determination, and hope remind us that every outcome can be rewritten. 💛

🎓 Congratulations to our 5 Dare to Dream graduates! 🎓
Last night, five incredible youth in our Dare to Dream mentoring program graduated from high school.

But what makes Dare to Dream special is that graduation isn't the finish line.
As these young adults step into college, careers, trade schools, and whatever comes next, they don't have to navigate it alone. Their mentors continue walking alongside them, offering encouragement, guidance, and a consistent relationship through life's biggest transitions.

Because every young person deserves someone in their corner.

To our graduates: We are incredibly proud of your hard work, resilience, and determination. The future is bright, and we can't wait to see what comes next.

And to the mentors who showed up month after month, year after year - thank you. Your investment in these young lives is helping change the trajectory of their futures.

Join us in celebrating these five amazing graduates! 🎉

Big transitions are easier when you don't have to navigate them alone. 💛
This young woman is preparing for one of the biggest seasons of her life: the transition to college.
New classes. New responsibilities. New opportunities. New challenges.
She's looking for a female mentor who can be a steady source of encouragement, wisdom, and support along the way. Someone to check in, listen, celebrate victories, and help her navigate the road ahead.
You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need a perfect schedule. You just need a willingness to show up and invest in a young person who could benefit from having another caring adult in her corner.
One relationship can make all the difference.

Foster Care is all around you.

There are children in foster care sitting in classrooms across our community. They're on sports teams, at playgrounds, in youth groups, and walking the same halls as our own children.
In Marion and Polk Counties alone, more than 500 children and youth are experiencing foster care.
Sometimes foster care can feel like a distant issue - something happening somewhere else to someone else. The reality is much closer to home.
It's all around us.
And when we begin to understand that, something changes. Foster care stops being a statistic and starts becoming a community responsibility.
Not everyone is called to foster. But everyone can do something. What is your "yes"?

Three families. Three different stories. One shared reality: foster families cannot do this alone.
Right now, families across West Salem are saying “yes” to children who need safety, stability, and support. They need a community willing to say “yes” alongside them.
This is what Love Box looks like.
Not perfection. Not having all the answers. Just consistent, intentional support that reminds families they are not alone.
A meal.
A babysitter.
A check-in text.
A game night.
A listening ear.
Small acts of support can keep foster homes open and families encouraged.
If you have ever wondered how you can make a difference in foster care, this is it.
Send us a message, share this post, or visit salemangels.org/waitlist to learn more.
