Honored today to speak to the hundreds of dedicated Salem Public Schools educators at the annual convocation leading into the first day of school this week!

As the parent of students, and as chair of our School Committee, I’m so grateful for the professionalism, commitment, and skill that our teachers bring to their work. Education is a community mission in our city, and together we’re entering this new school year with - in the words of Charlotte Forten - “true hearts and purpose high.”

On Tuesday, I’ll be there for our Senator, Ed Markey, because he’s always been there for us. From affordable homes to clean energy - from good jobs to fighting for the rights and dignity of every person in our Commonwealth, Senator Markey has proven, time and again, that he’s the leader we need.

Our region works best when we all work together, and that is what is asking for.

We’re not asking for the SESD facility to be taxed at its full value. We’re not asking for it to be moved somewhere else.

We have been asking, for over a decade now, for the same exact thing the SESD board itself is now asking for: Consideration of inflation.

We’re asking for fairness from our neighbors.

Since 2007, Sail Salem has offered and area youth the chance to get onto the water, learn about our oceans, and develop boating and swimming skills.

My own kids loved their time as Sail Salem campers and it was great fun to visit with the latest group of campers at Winter Island alongside Lt. Governor Driscoll as the summer wraps up!

It’s been a few months since our Scottish visitors departed following the World Cup, but the spirit of goodwill they brought here to persists!

After their time here, I wrote to Scotland’s First Minister to express our community’s gratitude for the joy their fans brought and how appreciative we were to forge new bonds of friendship across the globe. It was an unexpected delight to receive the First Minister’s response! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

When my great-great-grandparents left Iziaslav, Ukraine, to come to America, they carried with them the same enduring spirit that abides with all people of Ukrainian ancestry.
