Here's a speaker you won't want to miss at the March 2nd, 11:30 am meeting of the Cosmopolitan Woman's Club! Hear Beverly Armento, award-winning author of six books & former educator whose life work advocates the power of resilience, hope and the recovery ability of the mind and spirit. She shares strategies to overcome psychologically damaging chains of the past and confront ethical issues about caregiving plus much more.
Growing up in an abusive dysfunctional home, she naturally sought safe places such as school, church or the library where trusted mentors encouraged, motivated and empowered her. Inspired by the lessons they shared, she decided to pass it on and teach.
In her retirement though she turned to writing and speaking about topics such as childhood & adult trauma, coping strategies, resilience, hope and the importance of mentoring.
In her book, "Seeing Eye Girl" Armento tells of being the eyes for her blind, mentally-ill but artistic mother, connected and responsible for her, even though her mother physically and emotionally abused her. She was "Strong" Beverly at school - excellent in academics but at home she was "Weak" Beverly, cowed by her mother's rage and delusions.
Trauma is timeless - SO IS HOPE!
