The SFD is conducting a 9-week junior firefighter program for area youth, ages 15 through 17. Wednesday evenings from 6:15pm until 8:15pm. Beginning Wednesday July 1st and concluding on Wednesday August 26th.

Junior Firefighter Cadets will be introduced to basic firefighting skills including but not limited to, hose handling, ladders, and PPE.

Enrollment forms are available at the Salem City Municipal building, 1st floor window. Attendance is limited to 20 cadets.

We are honored to have members who are current, former, and retired public safety telecommunicators! Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to our fantastic Salem County PSTs.

The first first responders. The calm on the radio, the steady voice of reason during your moments of chaos. We rely on these folks to deliver timely & precise response to the needs of the field. And they are often overlooked as public safety personnel. So let’s take this moment to recognize these members of the team!

Special shout out to PST Supervisor Joe Hiles who recently delivered a baby over the 9-1-1 line, several minutes before arrival of first responders! Good job Joe!

For last nights drill the companies practiced standpipe operations at the parking garage. Firefighters practiced stairwell connections, bundle deployment & repacking, and handline management. We reviewed flow rates, friction loss, and pump operations principles using standpipe connections and 2” low-pressure hose.

This Saturday come meet us at the Salem Fire Museum at 166 E Broadway. We are having a recruitment drive. Do you have what it takes to be one of Salem’s finest?! 🔥🔥8am-12pm. The Museum will be open to tour as well.

This past weekend we had some incredible training focused on Engine Company Operations with Combat Ready Fire Training.

The days consisted of 4 hours of classroom instruction followed by 8 hours of hands-on evolutions—12 hours total dedicated to sharpening our skills and strengthening our fireground performance.

A huge thank you to our outstanding instructors:

• Spenser White, Captain – Salisbury, NC
• Jake Richardson, Captain – Salisbury, NC

Firefighters from Salem, Quinton, Elsinboro, Pennsville, Deepwater, LAC, and Alloway came together to train, learn, and push each other to be better.

This training has made us stronger, more prepared, and better equipped to serve our communities when it matters most. We’re grateful for the knowledge, experience, and passion shared by Combat Ready Fire Training.
