It’s that time of year….. BACK TO SCHOOL! Hard to believe, right?

As teachers and students alike have prepared for their first days this past week, I want to take a moment to give a shout out to all our donors who have given so generously to enhance the educational experience of our residents:

1. Donors to funds that support field trips- these folks have donated to help defray the rising costs of field trips so more students can participate.
2. Donors to funds that support grants to teachers- these donors, many of which are employees of Salem Community Schools, give money so teachers can buy equipment and supplies to provide an innovative learning experience.
3. Donors that support scholarships- These donors are helping our students achieve their dream of a college degree.
4. Donors to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library – These donors are helping our preschoolers get a head start on their reading skills and their readiness to start kindergarten.
5. Donors that support Education Matters- these donors are helping our adults with some college but no degree go back to school and finish.
6. Donors that support Youth Development- these donors are providing before and after school programming, tutoring and mentoring.
7.Donors that support the Happily Ever After Project- these donors are giving books to second and third graders and helping them to learn to love to read.

As you can see, we have many people who are using the Washington County Community Foundation to promote education in some form or fashion in our county. How about you? Call me to learn how you can use the Foundation to help make our community better.

WCCF has opened their Fall Grant Cycle. Funds for the $100,000 grant cycle are made possible through our generous donors and the Foundation’s Touch Tomorrow Funds.

Grant applications for the fall grant cycle are available by calling the WCCF office or visiting our website at https://wccf.biz/.../grant.../731-semi-annual-cycle to download an application. The application deadline will be 3:30pm, September 3, 2026.

Sometimes things happen in life that are hard to understand. The death of Rachel Spaulding Davis, at the age of 42, is one of those tragedies.

Thank you to our generous donors! The Town of New Pekin received a $10,000 grant to Refinish the Concrete Floors of Community Building. This will update the heavily utilized floors of the community building at Pekin Park, making them more appealing, easier to clean, and safer. Thank you, donors!

Thank you to our generous donors! The Pierce Polk Volunteer Fire Department received a $15,000 grant for their Station Remodel. This grant is to help with interior demolition, temporary wall and building modifications for the remodel of department to allow for the addition of two new truck bays within the existing station. Thank you, donors!
