Before the month is over, we wanted to give one last shout out to May being Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

At Oregon Family Support Network, we honor and celebrate the strength and resilience of AAPI communities. We recognize the importance of culturally responsive mental health support for families from all backgrounds.

Let’s lift up AAPI voices, share stories, and stand together for inclusion, understanding, and equitable care.

The way we react to stress can impact our physical health.

By ignoring our emotions, not giving ourselves a break, or using the wrong methods to cope we can increase our chances of high blood pressure and heart attacks down the line.

When you find yourself stressed, it’s easy to decompress by being stagnant, snacking, or even turning to alcohol. When you find your stress level rising, consider getting outside, going for a walk, or picking that healthy snack.

Developing healthier habits when we are stressed will create better outcomes for our physical and mental health.

If you need support, encouragement, or someone to listen, call the Oregon Family Support Network Parent Warmline at 1-833-732-2467. Our Family Support Specialists are here to walk alongside you.

"Recovery is not a straight line. I heal in place and circle around again. Sometimes I get stuck in the same place I did before — but not for as long. And then I move again. That is progress. Most recently, two women — who I deeply respect — told me they see the healing happening. And I do too. Healing didn’t come from more control. It came from compassion, trauma-informed care, and connection."

At Oregon Family Support Network, our Family Support Specialists are there to listen without judgment, share resources that work in the real world, and help families build confidence to advocate for their children.

Have a story you want to share? We’d love to hear from you! Visit ofsn.org to connect with a Family Support Specialist or share your story today.

How do we break the negative stigma of mental health?

It starts with the way we talk about mental health.

Proper Language
Using mental “condition” as opposed to mental “illness.” The use of “illness” can unintentionally carry a stigma.

A Person Not the Diagnoses
Focus on the person, not their diagnoses. A “person with autism” or a “person with bipolar,” not a “bipolar person.”

Speak Openly
Having honest conversations about mental health, whether it’s our own or others' health, can reduce shame and lay the groundwork for a more supportive system.

Sharing Stories
Sharing our own experiences and struggles creates more space for others to not feel alone.

The way we talk about mental health can shift shame to understanding and self-doubt to seeing each other.

Remember, you are not alone. Reach out to the Oregon Family Support Network Parent Warmline at 1-833-732-2467. Our Family Support Specialists are here to listen, support, and walk alongside you.

It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget to stop and acknowledge what we’re truly grateful for.

Moments of gratitude can be that early cup of coffee or tea in the morning. They can be hanging out with your kids, visiting with family and friends or that hobby that brings you joy.

Recognizing these moments can help ground us and appreciate the life we’re living. Sharing gratitude can help us be less cynical and be more present in life.

Start today with asking yourself what are you grateful for?

If you need a moment, call 1-833-732-2467 to connect with someone who understands. You are not alone, and you do not have to carry everything by yourself. Do not wait to reach out. Sometimes one supportive conversation can make all the difference.

Did you know it’s Border Personality Disorder Month?

Border Personality Disorder (BPD) is a commonly misunderstood disorder that makes it difficult for those with BPD to navigate life.

Many of the misconceptions of BPD can have people view the dramatic shift in moods as a personality trait rather than a mental health condition.

People with BPD deal with the negative stigma, intense emotional suffering, and can often struggle to access proper support and understanding from their community.

By educating ourselves on the symptoms, causes and treatments, we can begin to support those with BPD and help dismantle the common misconceptions of the condition.

For more information or resources about BPD you can visit: https://emotionsmatterbpd.org/peer-resources

Let’s work together to undo the negative stereotypes and start treating people with BPD with the respect and dignity we all deserve.

If you need a moment, call our Parent Warmline, 1-833-732-2467 to connect with someone who understands. You are not alone, and you do not have to carry everything by yourself. Do not wait to reach out. Sometimes one supportive conversation can make all the difference.
