On June 12, Salem Fire Department crews responded to a low-angle rope rescue in Northwest Salem after a patient fell approximately 20 feet down an embankment and was unable to safely climb out.

Firefighters from our technical rescue team used specialized rope rescue equipment and techniques to reach, stabilize, and safely remove the patient from the steep terrain. Six apparatus responded to assist with the rescue operation.

This incident highlights the importance of specialized rescue training and the teamwork required to safely operate in challenging environments. We are proud of the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by our crews throughout this rescue.

Thank you to all personnel involved for another successful outcome.

Some of your Salem Firefighters recently attended the Trails End Fire Conference, where they had the opportunity to learn from fire service professionals from across the region.

Training opportunities like this allow our members to gain new skills, explore emerging best practices, and bring back fresh ideas that can strengthen our service to the community.

The fire service is constantly evolving, and continuous learning is essential to staying prepared for the challenges we face. By investing in professional development, Salem Fire ensures our personnel remain equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Salem.

A strong department never stops learning, and neither do we.

Salem Fire Department is partnering with the American Pyrotechnics Safety & Education Foundation (APSEF) to provide a limited number of free fireworks disposal buckets this Fourth of July.

Many fireworks that appear extinguished can remain hot for hours and have the potential to start fires when thrown into trash cans, recycling bins, garages, or against combustible materials.

The solution is simple: Soak used fireworks in water before disposal.

A bucket of water can help prevent a fire, protect your property, and keep first responders available for true emergencies.

Watch our social media channels for information on how and where to pick up a free disposal bucket while supplies last.

Celebrate safely. Soak before you toss.

Here for you 24/7/365.
