The Salem School District would like to remind students of how important it is to be active and exercise throughout the summer. Just a few minutes of exercise per day can positively affect the way we feel and how we feel about ourselves. As a part of this reminder, the district is issuing the "Beat the Super Challenge."
On May 23, The Mark Thomas Memorial Apple Pie 5K will take place at 8:00 a.m. in Salem. Superintendent Wayne Guiltner is challenging all Salem Greyhound Students in grades 6-11, to this 5K race.
Mr. Guiltner has stated that if you do not show up for the race then he is claiming that you forfeit the race to him, and if you do show up, he claims that he will beat you in the race.
Salem Greyhound students in grades 6-11 who beat Mr. Guiltner in the 5K race on May 23, will receive one free Greyhound Student Athletic Pass for the 2026-2027 school year. Passes will be issued when we return to school in the fall.
However, Mr. Guiltner is already guaranteeing a victory over all Salem Greyhound students in grades 6-11, and stated that he is without a doubt the fastest Greyhound. Don't let Mr. Guiltner get away with this type of rhetoric. Sign up for the 5K race today and take the, "Beat the Super Challenge."

The Salem Elementary Project Community Day showcased our local service organizations. The students were able to learn how these organizations protect us, keep our electricity going, and encouraged us to be good stewards of our environment.

Thank you to Salem City Police, Fulton County Police, Salem Fire Department, Arkansas Forestry Department, NAEC, Arkansas Game and Fish, Baxter Regional Ambulance Service, Arkansas State Police, Salem School District SRO’s, Ponca and Fred Berry Game and Fish Educational Conservation, Mammoth Spring Federal Fish Hatchery, and Fulton County Office of Emergency Management.
