Despite...being caught on video, few perpetrators have been forced to face the consequences of their actions—because their faces were covered.

There is a solution: anti-masking laws. For over a century, states across the country barred face-covering during mass gatherings to combat the Ku Klux Klan’s harassment and intimidation campaigns. These laws worked, making public exposure the price of participation in Klan rallies. Similar laws could work today...

Pro-Hamas protesters have borrowed from the K*K’s playbook when it comes to intimidation. They hide behind masks to harass people they hate and interfere with the free exercise of fundamental constitutional rights...

We still have an anti-K*K law on the federal books, signed into law in 1871 by President Ulysses S. Grant. The so-called Ku Klux Klan Act makes it a crime for “two or more persons” to “go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another” with the intention of preventing or hindering the free enjoyment of any federal right. Pro-Hamas demonstrators fit squarely within that definition and could thus be held criminally liable.

Under the K*K Act, victims can also bring a civil suit for damages.

America's 250th anniversary deserves a bit of attention to the history of our great nation. Join, or Die is the first known representation of the idea of the British American colonies uniting as a single entity. Created as a cartoon in the Pennsylvania Gazette by Benjamin Franklin during the French and Indian War, it later became an iconic symbol of the colonies coming together in the Revolutionary War to establish the United States of America.

Do you know what the Democratic Socialists stand for? As they continue to push their way into elected office in Oregon, we think Oregonians should know. It explains a lot about what you're seeing in Portland today.

—“real democracy,” calling for the replacement of “the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress”
—police and prison abolition (They call it "abolishing the carceral forces of the capitalist state".)
—naming Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state
—ranked-choice voting
—public ownership of the largest corporations
—defund the Dept of War, close overseas bases, and end all economic sanctions

Gov. Tina Kotek has declined a July Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association gubernatorial debate with Sen. Christine Drazan, R-Canby, despite participating in 2022...The decision comes less than a week after Kotek challenged Drazan to three debates in Portland, Eugene and Medford.

Drazan responded to Kotek’s invitation on social media, saying, “LOL. Of course we’re going to debate. I can do that all day with a record like yours. But if we’re going to talk about Oregon, we should include all of it—not just the I-5 corridor.”

The debate was set to be held during ONPA's annual summer gathering at the Salem Convention Center on July 24.

This is excellent news for Oregon's seafood industry: Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announces a new Office of Seafood bringing strong federal commitment to America’s seafood Industry.

“The creation of the USDA Office of Seafood is exactly the kind of bold, coordinated action our fishing communities have needed for years,” said Oregon State Senator Dick Anderson representing Newport, one of Oregon’s largest fishing ports. Senator Anderson further points out the huge disparity of foreign imports that flood local markets.

Restrictions such as low catch limits, selling fishing grounds for foreign countries, inaccurate and outdated fisheries data and delayed adoption of modern technology have prohibited Oregon’s fish economy from fully realizing its huge economic potential...

Oregon’s seafood industry already lands hundreds of millions of pounds annually, generating more than $600 million in dockside value and supporting thousands of jobs tied to harvesting, processing, and distribution, according to NOAA Fisheries. For decades Oregon fishers have lost market share and the ability to make a family wage living due to Federal government overregulation.

Under an ordinance proposed by Portland City Council President Jamie Dunphy, people would be prohibited from bringing fi****ms into facilities where the “governing body” holds official meetings — even if they have a license to carry a concealed one. Although local code already bans guns from city buildings, there is an “affirmative defense” in place for license holders...

“A philosophical argument that I learned was that 75% of people don’t need a law to do what’s right and 10% won’t ever do what’s right, no matter what the law — and so we’re governing for 15%,” Dunphy said...

“I don’t know what we’re trying to solve and, if you are dead set on this, I hope you will at least consider that you are adding a significant legal risk to people who are otherwise following the law — and I think that deserves our pause,” Zimmerman said. “And I don’t think that right now that this is going to make any one person or any group of people safer.”

"Impeachment theatre." That's exactly the show the current Oregon Representative is putting on. Along with our Attorney General and our governor, the whole focus of the show seems to be to hinder and to censor and to stop those in Washington who are trying to make government more efficient, more accountable, less intrusive, and less wasteful of taxpayers' dollars.

Isn't it time for a Representative in Congress who is there to represent the real interests and needs of Oregon's businesses and families?

Question for Oregonians: Is Bonamici protecting students, or preserving federal bureaucracy?

Secretary McMahon has betrayed students, families, and educators by dismantling and demolishing the Department of Education, something she does not have authority to do. Congress created the Department and it would take an Act of Congress to shut it down. About 90 percent of students in this country attend public schools. Students have the right to equal access without discrimination and students with disabilities have the right to a free and appropriate education.

I will not stand by and let Sec. McMahon destroy the federal programs, funding, and research that are critical to public schools and the millions of students they serve.

Second amendment rights are in the news today.

The Supreme Court unanimously held in United States v. Hemani that the federal ban on firearm possession by "unlawful drug users" violates the Second Amendment.

“Ultimately, this ruling carries immediate, profound implications for millions of Americans who use medical or recreational cannabis under state frameworks — removing the threat of federal criminal liability for peaceful gun ownership,” says Cato’s Mike Fox.

Cato, joined by the Reason Foundation, filed an amicus brief urging the Court to hold that the law violates the Second Amendment: https://ow.ly/Lk7n50ZeonK

A Florida Court of Appeals has ruled that a ban on concealed carry by 18-20 year old adults is a violation of the Second Amendment. These are young adults who can carry a weapon to defend our nation, but were restricted from carrying one to defend themselves.

Judge Spencer D. Levine said, "Restricting 18- to 20-year-olds—members of the same 'political community' as other law-abiding adults—from rights to self-defense would make the Second Amendment a 'second-class' right."
