One more under the radar sweet victory on this primary day, friends. Turns out, the people of St. Louis, MO are not so keen on the authorities killing their neighbors. They booted the prosecutor who refused to file charges against the police officer who killed Michael Brown. We are SO excited for criminal justice reform in prosecutor's offices!!

Congrats to Wesley Bell for St. Louis County Prosecutor - Democrat and to the people of St. Louis County for selecting him - we wish you all peace and a much brighter future.

What's the Matter with Kansas?! For crying out loud - Johnson County is just not delivering results. Ugh. not yet called. We support whoever wins the Democratic primary because this seat is SO SO SO SO flippable - cannot wait for Kansas to send at least one Democrat to Washington! Of course we still adore James Thompson for Kansas - he has a tougher race in but we think he will pull it off. When both of these seats turn blue, Kansas will send half of its House delegation as Democrats. We're so excited for our friends in Kansas!!!
And it is still unclear who will be the GOP candidate for governor. (Please don't let it be Kobach, please don't let it be Kobach, please don't let it be Kobach) We are rooting for Laura Kelly to flip the corner office and start moving this state toward sanity.

Race to watch for a flip in Washington State in November: . Congrats Lisa Brown on super close primary! Go win!

Actually - just noticing this for WA, it appears that NONE of the GOP incumbents pulled 50% or over in this primary (WA has top two advancing in an open primary format). All of the Dem incumbents had over 50%. This is exciting news for November. Not just , but we are looking to see potential flips in (we are rooting for Carolyn Long against Jaime Herrera Beutler), and (we like whoever wins that crowded field and really, *really* hope Dems unite their to provide Dino Rossi the chance to get a new job).

We have been on since he announced his candidacy. We'd love anyone to defeat Ted Cruz. But it would be so incredibly sweet if this outstanding Congressman, Beto O'Rourke, got the nod from Texans. He's the real deal. Texas deserves so much better than it has now. Michelle Branch said it best when she sang "Goodbye Ted Cruz" - Go Beto!!

This race in a state that isn’t usually competitive for Democrats in statewide races has generated an unusual amount of attention. Most of it is thanks to U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic nominee, who is running an unconventional yet successful campaign that has piqued the interest of Dem...

Friends - there is a ton of election activity around right here in MA. But for anyone who wants to venture up to NH to help elect progressive voting rights champions to the NH House, especially right now because of the oppressive change to their voting laws, Let America Vote is canvassing and would love some volunteers:

Here's details:

Nashua 7/28 Canvass: 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at 300 Main St.

Barrington 8/4 Canvass: 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at 653 Calef Hwy. (Then moving on to Epping.)

Every day besides Monday and Friday they canvass out of the office in Manchester, which is located at 266 Mammoth Rd.

Please share this information!! Thanks!

I know, I know - so much coming out of Washington seems to fly at 100 miles an hour in and out of the news as new horrible events take precedence. But, we should focus on something we can urge our lawmakers to address: slush funds. They are a national disgrace. The idea is to allow for members of Congress to help other candidates. While several members do exactly that, too many use the money for membership fees to country clubs and tickets to Broadway shows. Public service is a public trust. Leadership PACs - as they function today - are often a betrayal of that trust.
At a minimum, we should demand quarterly disclosure of all monies and expenses for every Leadership PAC. Every member who uses the money for personal expenses should face the scrutiny with which the GOP tortures poor people: drug testing, fingerprinting, stop and frisk for no reason other than being a slush fund ju**ie, jumping through hoops to vote, risk of eviction and most importantly - loss of a job.

Friends - this is a pretty good piece about solutions within states themselves re: gerrymandering fixes. It mentions the success of the PA state constitution litigation which is a really hot and interesting option in other deeply cut states as well as ballot questions/referenda and (duh) electing better (i.e. Democratic) governors. Remember changing state legislatures and governors is a cheaper, more manageable option than funding a Congressional flip. we nearly got there is gerrymandered-to-the-hilt VA, PA has the court-imposed new districts - look to FL, MD, MI, OH, WI and the granddaddy of them all - NC for real movement at the state level to effect change (warms me federalist heart...). Help where you can!!

In every state with an extreme partisan gerrymander, there’s a potential solution in the state itself.
