OYA Foster Care

OYA Foster Care Oregon Youth Authority, the state's juvenile justice agency, is seeking special people willing to work with youth as foster parents. Contact us for more info!

See insideoya.com for terms of use. Foster care is part of the continuum of care provided for youth committed to the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA). Youth offenders served in foster care are at a lower risk to re-offend criminally, but for various reasons are not yet able to return to their families’ homes and/or are not yet ready to live independently. For example, many youth transition out of resi

dential programs or youth correctional facilities and need practice living successfully in the community in structured environments. Foster homes allow youth opportunities to re-acclimate to a community setting. For these youth, living in a certified foster home may offer the best opportunity to successfully move back into the community and lead crime-free lives.

OYA Foster Care Picnic Part 3: The Fellowship

The picnic is a time where OYA staff, foster parents, and youth come together to have fun and build relationships. We put the work aside and enjoy watching the youth just be kids for a while.

OYA Foster Care Picnic Part Two: The Fun

Two teams of youth went head-to-head in a scavenger hunt. They had clues that took them to different spots in the park and each clue envelope had a puzzle piece inside. Once they gathered all their pieces, they had to race back to the start and complete their puzzle to win. The Green team was victorious!

Youth, staff, and foster parents also had fun with a water game. Another big thank you to our amazing foster parent, Don, for bringing the bicycle carts.

Way back Wednesday! We are gearing up for our annual OYA foster care picnic this week and thought we would share photos from a past picnic. This is a time where youth, foster parents, and OYA staff come together to have some fun in the sun and celebrate our wonderful foster families and the progress youth in their homes are making.

Warning, long read but well worth it. We would like to recognize a, now, former OYA youth that did so amazing and has such an inspiring story. This youth came to OYA after being in detention for 64 days. He started in and completed a program and then the tough decision was made, with his family on board, to not return him home but to put him in Foster Care. This youth was placed with a family from church. While there, and during his time in OYA, he did exceptionally well. During his time in Foster Care, he played football, baseball, wrestling and did shotput in track. He also completed driver’s school and obtained his driver’s license and earned his forklift certification. He also was able to do a mission trip in Panama where he helped build a school and was the translator while there. The PO had this to say,

it is evident that he has changed his life, and he is an example that people can change their ways if they choose to. He has become a remarkable young man. I am very proud of him.

We are so proud of this youth for the work he did and so thankful to the Foster Parents that stepped up and helped him out! This picture is the day he was released from OYA.
