On Tuesday afternoon, the Beulah Fire Department (BFD) A-Shift was dispatched to the 8100 block of Lee Road 252 following reports of a residential fire with potential entrapment. The caller indicated that heavy smoke was emanating from the structure, and there was a possibility of one occupant and a dog being trapped inside.
Beulah Fire personnel, arriving promptly alongside the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, encountered a single-wide mobile home displaying significant smoke from the exterior. Firefighters swiftly entered the residence to conduct a primary search for the trapped occupant, while additional team members deployed a 1 3/4” hose line to initiate an aggressive interior attack on the fire. The primary search team began their efforts on the alpha/delta side of the residence, facing conditions of extreme heat and zero visibility challenges.
The search crew quickly located the victim within the residence, who was found unresponsive and not breathing. Firefighters immediately extricated the occupant and began administering CPR, with support from deputies of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Concurrently, fire attack crews identified and contained a room and contents fire on the bravo side of the residence. After the victim’s removal and the commencement of life-saving efforts, the primary search team re-entered the building to ensure no additional occupants were trapped. During their search, firefighters discovered a dog within the residence, also unresponsive and not breathing. They promptly removed the dog and initiated life-saving measures while continuing to assist the occupant.
Despite the concerted efforts of Beulah Fire personnel and EAMC ETS paramedics, the occupant was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene by Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Unit in conjunction with the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Beulah Fire Department extends heartfelt condolences to the families and friends affected by this unfortunate incident.
Notably, Beulah Fire personnel conducted the primary search operation, extracting the victim and initiating CPR within two minutes of their arrival.
