Oregon Corrections Enterprises Empowering transformation through training, work, and reentry. This amendment, known as Ballot Measure 17, took effect April 1, 1995.

Oregon Corrections Enterprises (OCE) traces its beginnings to 1995, when Oregon voters enacted a constitutional amendment that requires correctional institutions to actively engage adults in custody in full-time work or on-the-job training. In 1999, Oregon voters passed Ballot Measure 68, which established Oregon Corrections Enterprises as a semi-independent state agency. The OCE Administrator rep

The collective efforts of both DOC and OCE are focused on keeping Oregon correctional facilities safe and providing adults in custody with the skill set and work ethics they will need to succeed upon release. On average OCE provides jobs and/or training for over 1,337 adults in custody in eight DOC facilities located across the state.

Oregon Corrections Enterprises’ Braille Program at Oregon State Penitentiary continues to demonstrate how meaningful work can transform lives and strengthen communities.

Known as The Braille Cell, the program equips participants with technical skills while providing an essential service for individuals who rely on braille every day.

In our latest blog, Jorge shares how entering the program reshaped his time inside—opening the door to personal growth, collaboration, and a skill with lasting value far beyond incarceration.

Shaka has been part of OCE programs for the past year and a half and has been steadily growing and excelling every step of the way.

After gaining hands‑on experience in the OCE Print Shop and earning his Commercial Printing certification, Shaka continued his growth by joining the Multimedia Design Team at OSCI, bringing his established clothing and fashion design experience into a new creative setting.

Most recently, Shaka completed his Business Technology – Multimedia Design certification, adding advanced digital design and production skills to his already impressive background.

OCE’s training and certification programs are designed to help participants build industry‑recognized skills, confidence, and pathways to future employment. Shaka’s continued progress reflects what happens when dedication meets opportunity. Great work, Shaka!

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today. As President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on.”

In observance of Memorial Day, OCE offices will be closed on Monday, May 25.

Let us all take a moment to reflect, remember, and express our deepest gratitude

Celebrating an incredible milestone in the OCE Laundry Program at DRCI.

After more than three years of dedication and growth, Aynsley has earned the lead role in the Laundry shop and is now preparing for release. Through a meeting facilitated by OCE, he recently connected with ALSCO—one of our trusted long‑term partners—and was offered a job at their plant upon release.

ALSCO has hired many participants from OCE Laundry Programs over the years, with several moving into roles such as plant manager, engineer, and even chief engineer at Oregon locations. One District Manager shared that individuals coming through the OCE Laundry Programs are often more knowledgeable and better trained than any other applicants they receive.

Aynsley’s success reflects the power of building real‑world skills, developing strong work habits, and partnering with employers who believe in second chances. He proudly holds his job offer letter as he gets ready to take the next step. Congratulations Aynsley!

We want to congratulate Isaac from the OCE Call Center at SRCI on completing his typing certification. Isaac finished all 36 lessons and surpassed 45 words per minute with 98% accuracy — an outstanding accomplishment.

Many program participants begin with little to no typing experience. To support skill development, OCE offers typing instruction in most program areas where computer use and written communication are part of the daily workflow. These classes strengthen workplace readiness and help participants build confidence as they learn new tools and tasks.

Isaac’s commitment and progress are a great reflection of the opportunities available through OCE programs and the hard work happening every day in our shops.

Well done, Isacc!

Summer weather is just around the corner, and as counties and parks across Oregon get ready to welcome visitors, we’re looking back at a project from last year that continues to make a difference.

This life jacket kiosk was built through a collaboration between OCE’s Sign Shop and Metal Shop. The Sign Shop created the colorful, weather‑resistant signage, and the Metal Shop fabricated the structure to withstand Oregon’s outdoor conditions.

Even a year later, this kiosk stands as a great example of how OCE supports community safety while providing adults in custody with hands-on training in design, fabrication, and production skills that prepare them for reentry and future employment.

We appreciate the opportunity to partner with agencies and park teams committed to visitor safety and community well‑being. To learn more about how OCE programs support community needs while building real‑world job skills, visit https://www.oce.oregon.gov/training-programs/.

On June 12, OCE is opening the doors at OSP for a unique behind‑the‑scenes experience. The Trades & Training Showcase brings together employers, unions, and apprenticeship partners to see the hands‑on skills AICs are building every day through accredited training and real production work.

It’s an opportunity to ask questions, meet program staff, and discover how these pathways support Oregon’s workforce and reentry success. If you’ve ever wanted to understand the depth of talent developing inside OCE programs, this event is the place to start.

We would like to recognize five participants at the OCE Laundry operation at TRCI who recently earned their Commercial Laundry Workskills Certification.

Congratulations to Jadaya, Carl, Enrique, Michael, and Allen on this achievement.

Through OCE’s commercial laundry program, adults in custody gain hands‑on training in a real‑world, fast‑paced environment, learning essential skills like equipment operation, safety practices, workflow management, and quality control. These certifications help build confidence and prepare individuals for meaningful employment opportunities after release.

Each certification earned represents another step toward successful reentry and a stronger future.

Great job, everyone!

The OCE Sign Shop at Snake River Correctional Institution is a hands‑on training environment where AICs learn the full process of modern sign fabrication. From design and layout to engraving and production, participants gain experience using equipment like our Vision CNC machine while developing valuable technical and workplace skills.

Each sign and engraved piece represents more than a finished product—it reflects teamwork, growth, and the confidence that comes from mastering new tools and processes. These skills prepare adults in custody for meaningful opportunities in the workforce and support long‑term personal development.

To explore the equipment, training pathways, certifications, and skill sets taught in the Sign Shop, visit our Signs Program page: https://www.oce.oregon.gov/sign-fabrication/

We would like to recognize and congratulate Matthew, one of our program participants in the OCE Furniture Factory at OSP, for earning his OSHA 10 Certification and his NCCER Cabinetmaking Certification.

Both of these credentials carry meaningful value for Matthew’s future. OSHA 10 provides nationally recognized safety training that helps prepare him to participate safely and confidently in industrial and construction environments. His NCCER Cabinetmaking Certification demonstrates technical skill and craftsmanship that support career opportunities in woodworking and manufacturing after release.

These certifications stay with him, offering portable, industry‑backed proof of the skills he has invested time and effort into building.

Matthew achieved these milestones while participating full time in the Furniture Factory program, balancing hands‑on experience with the dedication required to complete each credential. He is now moving forward with his NCCER Project Management Certification, continuing to expand his knowledge and strengthen his future career pathway. Great job, Matthew!
