Salem Youth Commission Commission run by Salem, Youth Ages 13-21. Key Components:

Policy: Giving youth the ability to voice their concerns is vital in our city.

Youth Commission

Purpose: To encourage youth involvement in the community, enhance leadership skills, and voice policy ideas and concerns of our city youth. To create that avenue, the City of Salem Youth Commission will meet with the Mayor, City Council and key city staff to discuss how various issues affect them and other members of their communities. Networking & Advocacy: Members of the Salem’

s Youth Commission are provided an opportunity to dialogue directly with members of City Council, Key Senior Staff within the City of Salem, and community leaders that work directly in areas that are critical to the community’s quality of life. Education: The commissioners receive an education on how local government operates and responds to the needs of a community. Service: Commissioners will coordinate community service projects with key city staff and community leaders as well as other youth in their communities. Other: The commissioners may organize special events or programs, recommends changes to or create policies to the Mayor and City Council


Comisión de Adolescentes de Salem


Propósito: Para animar a los adolescentes a que se involucren en la comunidad, mejoren sus habilidades de liderazgo, y proporcionar una plataforma para compartir ideas y preocupaciones políticas. Componentes:
Política: En proporcionarle a los adolescentes una plataforma para expresar sus preocupaciones importantes en nuestra comunidad. Para crear esas avenidas, la Comisión de Adolescentes de Salem se reunirá con la alcaldía, miembros del concejal en la ciudad para conversar sobre varias cuestiones cual les afecta a la comunidad adolescente de Salem, aprenden sobre proyectos de la ciudad, y les ofrecen sugerencias a los que toma decisiones. Creando Redes y Abogacía: Miembros de la Comisión de Adolescentes de Salem se les dará la oportunidad para tener dialogo directamente con miembros del concejal de la ciudad, y líderes comunitarios cual trabajan directamente en áreas que son críticas para la calidad de las comunidades. Educación: La Comisión de Adolescentes de Salem tendrá la oportunidad de aprender como funciona un gobierno municipal, como opera y responde a las necesidades de la comunidad también participan en oportunidades de desarrollo de liderazgo

Servicio: La comisión coordinará proyectos de servicios comunitarios con personal clave de la ciudad y líderes comunitarios también con otros adolescentes en sus comunidades. Thank you Senator Joan B. Lovely & State Representative Paul Tucker for taking the time to listen to our concerns and experiences. We will be following up with you both and continue these conversations and keep you informed on our future projects.

The Salem Youth Commission participated at this years The 84 Movement event. We met with youth across the state, and attended Legislative meetings and celebrated the work of all the chapters over the last year.

Thank you for honoring the with this award.

Our mission is to provide an advocacy and information platform for youth representatives to get more engaged in City issues, helping to recommend new programs and events, craft initiatives in partnerships with other City boards and departments, local non-profits, and businesses, and suggest ideas for new policies or regulations for the City to consider.

Having the opportunity to work with young people at SACS and from across the city has been such a great experience.

Over the last two years we have been able to participate in their annual social justice projects around the use of to***co amongst our young people. This year our focus is around identifying trends, and areas in our community and other surrounding communities where such said products are being sold.

We want to collect 50 responses from our young people in Salem (we won’t be mad if more people take it though😊). We want to know about your experience especially during these times of how to***co is affecting our youth.
