East Lancaster Neighborhood Association for hosting such a wonderful National Night Out event on August 4th.

National Night Out is community effort to bring neighbors, friends and police together to create community and make neighborhoods safer and meet new people. The event happens each year on the first Tuesday of August.

Over 60 neighbors attended including City of Salem Neighborhood Services staff to build relationships and share City resources and program updates.

This was ELNA's first block party in several years and the board looks forward to hosting future block parties and making it bigger and better every time. Board member Terry even bussed residents from their homes near the event to make sure everyone had access to the free activities, ice cream and popcorn!

SESNA is hosting a BBQ party on August 4th during National Night Out to celebrate it's 50th birthday! All neighbors are invited and its free.

Feel free to bring a side dish to share. We hope to have a fire truck, police squad car and other neighborhood group displays. Fun activities planned for the kids in your family.

Our very own Roundhouse Band will play at 6:30 p.m. — if you haven't heard them, don't miss it! They are part of SESNA, and that's pretty cool.

Bring a canned food donation to help feed our neighbors in need.

It will be a hot evening, please be prepared and stay hydrated.

Any Space Can be a Canvas!

Last weekend, Northeast Neighbors (NEN) had 22 volunteer painters and over 100 neighbors come together to beautify a neighborhood street. Be sure to head over to Northeast Salem at the intersection of 21st Street NE and Nebraska Avenue NE near Englewood Park and check it out!

NEN encompasses a beautiful, historic part of Salem, including the Court-Chemeketa Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Anyone who works, lives, owns a business, or property within its borders is a member of NEN.

Its the next round of meet your neighbors. The folks from Highland Neighbors and NESCA at the Saturday Market this Saturday! Neighbors from both associations will have an informational booth. The weekly market is free and open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 865 Marion St. NE.

Stop in and learn what a neighborhood association is, what they, and how you can help in improving our community. They'll have some fun giveaways too!

Please join Cando Neighborhood (downtown Salem) association meeting on July 21st @ 6 PM. Neighbors will hear from the City traffic engineer about the downtown safety study and from Cherriots about a proposed route change. Salem Police and your elected Councilors are scheduled to attend and provide community updates and news.

And meet the board. They're pretty cool. 😎
