We are grateful to be one of the libraries awarded by the Center for East Asian Studies at UW-Madison for the East Asia in the Upper Midwest Library Program! The funds will be used to purchase books for our collection, as well as two book club discussion kits for our adult book clubs.

Congrats to the 19 libraries across Wisconsin that received awards in April through the 2026 “East Asia in the Upper Midwest Library Program” competition. Nearly $21,000 in funding will be distributed to grant recipients representing 11 of the state’s 15 library systems. This is the sixth year of the competition, which offers grants to public libraries with the goal of enriching patrons’ understanding of East Asia through the funding of new programming and materials.

This year’s grants will also help the Wisconsin Book Festival in Madison include a speaker about a book connected to East Asia, as part of the festival’s 25th anniversary activities in 2026. This continues a long partnership between CEAS and WBF.

Donations have started!! 🧶 Donate your craft supplies to the Salem or Twin Lakes Libraries through May 15th for our Craft Supply Swap! The swap is at the Salem Branch on Saturday, May 16th 10am-3pm. The swap is completely FREE and open to the public.

Kaylee from Kenosha County 4-H visited ABC Storytime this Wednesday with her chicken! 🐥 The children and Ms. Kristen were able to pet the chicken, and learn more about them.

Stop by the Salem Branch on Wednesdays at 10:30am for ABC Storytime, through May 20th. Storytimes are drop-in, no registration required.

Looking to get out of your reading comfort zone this year? Our new Book Bingo Reading Challenge is a year-long, self-directed reading challenge for adults aged 19+ with opportunities to win prizes. Mark off a square as you read throughout the year. When you earn a bingo, bring your card into the library and receive a prize. Complete a blackout on your card by the end of the year and you’ll be entered to win the grand prize! Stop by the information desk at Salem or Twin Lakes to learn more.

We'd like to send a sincere thank you to Carrie, Culver's General Manager in Paddock Lake, for coming to our Salem Branch today and delivering the wonderful gift basket. The gift cards, plush toys, and kickball will make an excellent grand prize for our Summer Reading Program.

We also truly appreciate Culver's providing free custard and meal coupons for our youth finishing prizes again this year. Furthermore, thank you for the generous offer to host a free custard stand at our Summer Picnic on August 8th!

ABC Storytime had a special visit from a friendly baby goat from Kenosha County 4-H this past Wednesday. We are excited to partner with Kenosha County 4-H over the next few weeks with animal visits to ABC Storytime at the Salem Branch on Wednesdays at 10:30am, summer craft classes, and a craft table at our Summer Picnic on August 8th.
