Our hearts are heavy as we continue to learn more about the hazardous materials incident in Longview. The tragedy at the paper mill is an unfathomable loss, marking one of the most severe hazardous materials incidents our region has ever faced.

To the victims and their families: Oregon stands with you in your grief. To the community of Longview and the incredibly brave first responders who rushed into danger: we are with you, we support you, and we mourn alongside you.

A month worth celebrating! May marks our one-year partnership-iversary with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety - IBHS (IBHS). We've accomplished a lot in the last year to get Oregonians the tools and latest research to create a wildfire-prepared Oregon.

➡ We hosted a demonstration burn for our partners and lawmakers to see firsthand how simple actions around a home can increase resilience.
➡ We launched an educational campaign (you may have seen it here 😁) focused on making the first five feet of your home wildfire ready. IBHS research guided these tips.
➡ Our new defensible space model code is available for local adoption. It was also guided by their research.

These are just a few of the things we've achieved over the last year. This data has informed our grants programs, strategic investments, and every aspect of how we're helping you be better prepared for wildfire.

Thank you, IBHS, for such a great partnership, and cheers to many more years!

The outlook isn't looking too great for our wildfire season this summer. Get prepared now by creating defensible space and making your home more resilient to wildfire.

Simple steps like cleaning your gutters, replacing bark dust with rock, and making sure flammable items are removed from your decks and patios are a great start.

Huge thank you to Salem Fire Department for their quick response today. There was a fire in the shared building that contains our warehouse, and because of their swift actions and smart operational decisions, we’re relieved to share that no one was hurt and our warehouse and equipment were spared.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Salem Fire Department. We are deeply grateful for the incredible work of our local firefighters here and around the state.

This weekend is looking like a great time to create some defensible space around your home! If you have yard debris, we recommend composting or recycling it.

If burning debris is your only option, many areas across the state have restrictions in place. Check and follow those. Debris burning is the #1 human-cause of wildfires. Help us reduce those numbers.

May is in Oregon! We're asking everyone to take one simple action to reduce the risk of your home being damaged or destroyed by a wildfire.

It's the drifting embers from a wildfire that ignite a home. Reducing the things that could catch on fire within the first five feet can greatly improve wildfire resilience.

Take it one project at a time to build legendary protection.

Did you know? Replacing bark dust within the first five feet around your home with something non-combustible like rock or pavers can improve your wildfire resilience. Embers from a fire can land in dry bark and ignite.

Don't give embers a place to call home. Create defensible space.
