In 2015 the Oregon Legislature passed HB 3479, which funded a full-time permanent Statewide Women Veterans Coordinator - making us one of only a handful of states to support such a position within the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA). It is the goal of ODVA and the Women Veterans Coordinator to improve advocacy and outreach to women who have served in the military, gather better data a

nd research on women veterans in Oregon, participate in policy important to women veterans, work with county, state and federal partnerships to advance the level of care that women veterans receive in Oregon, and help women veterans access the benefits that they have earned. We understand that working for women veterans means hearing your questions, problems, or concerns. With all this in mind, we approach this exciting position with women veterans and their families at the forefront of all we do. As we focus on moving forward through the many changes and challenges of the pandemic, know that we are here for you, we are listening, and we are supporting you and your families. The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs has expanded its Oregon Veterans Educational Bridge Grant (VEBG) Program, increasing the amount of funding available per applicant and greatly expanding eligibility for veterans facing challenges in completing their educational or vocational goals.

The VEBG was established by the Oregon Legislature in 2019 to provide financial assistance grants to eligible veterans to alleviate financial stress during a gap period when required courses or training hours are unavailable, allowing them to remain enrolled in school or apprenticeship training.

The original lifetime maximum grant award was capped at $5,000; however, with the Oregon Legislature’s passage of House Bill 4132 earlier this year, that amount has been doubled to $10,000 beginning July 1, 2026. The Legislature also expanded eligibility to include veterans experiencing financial hardships that could endanger their ability to remain enrolled in a degree, apprenticeship or training program.

Oregon Women Veterans: Your voice matters.

The Advisory Committee to the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) has launched a short, confidential survey to better understand the needs, challenges, and priorities of Women Veterans across Oregon.

Oregon Women Veterans are one of the fastest-growing veteran communities in the state, and their experiences play an important role in shaping future services and support. The survey takes approximately five minutes to complete, does not collect personal identifying information, and will remain open from June 1–30.

Women Veterans statewide are encouraged to participate, and community partners are invited to help share the survey within their networks.

The VA Portland Health Care System invites women veterans to join its Women Veterans Virtual Town Hall this Thursday March 19, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. PT

This online Town Hall will be geared toward providing women veterans with information on menopause and what is available at VA. Women veterans can also expect the Town Hall to provide information regarding:

-Answers to questions about menopause and perimenopause
-Focus group discussions for women veterans
-Discussion regarding future topics for town halls such as this
-Information about the latest in health care services and research from subject matter experts

This virtual Town Hall is open to all veterans, caregivers, spouses and community members.
