It's not to late to share your input! Oregonians can complete a survey through June 1 on what creates a sense of belonging in postsecondary programs.

Complete the online survey:

https://www.oregonskitchentable.org/surveys/what-helps-create-sense-belonging-oregon-college-and-training-programs

What Helps Create a Sense of Belonging in Oregon College and Training Programs? The survey is available in English, French, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese, and is open through June 1, 2026.

The HECC is partnering with Oregon's Kitchen Table (OKT)—to hear directly from current, recent, and future students and learners, as well as community members who support learners, about what could help create a sense of belonging in learning settings after high school. This process is intended to generate actionable insights to strengthen inclusivity and belonging across Oregon institutions.

In a press release today, we are pleased to release the 2026 Oregon Talent Assessment, a research analysis focused on emerging trends in the economic and workforce landscape in Oregon, which offers recommendations for the state to build a stronger talent pool and workforce development system.

Read the full assessment: https://www.oregon.gov/workforceboard/data-and-reports/Documents/2026%20Oregon%20Talent%20Assessment.pdf
The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) and the Workforce and Talent Development Board (WTBD) contracted with ECOnorthwest to develop this comprehensive analysis for Oregon. The 2026 Talent Assessment provides a framework to help identify priority industries and occupations while highlighting current and anticipated major workforce challenges and opportunities.

This year's assessment shows that demand for workers in key sectors of Oregon’s economy remains strong, even amidst slowing employment growth over the next decade. The researchers argue that a more connected approach is needed in education, training, and economic development to help more Oregonians access and stay in good jobs.

Commissioned every two years since 2018, the 2026 analysis is the fifth Talent Assessment for Oregon. Highlights of the report were presented at the Oregon Talent Summit in Salem on May 19, which brought together hundreds of people from across public policy, education, and workforce development for a day-long conference focused on “Bridging Vision and Action: Forging Oregon’s Path Forward.”

The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC), in partnership with Oregon's Kitchen Table, has launched a survey and community engagement initiative, inviting input through now through May 27, 2026.

In a press release today, HECC is pleased to announce this opportunity for Oregonians to share input about what could help create a sense of belonging for students at Oregon college, university, and training programs and settings. We are partnering with Oregon’s Kitchen Table (OKT)—a statewide community engagement program—to hear directly from current, recent, and future students and learners, as well as community members who support learners, about what could help create a sense of belonging in learning settings after high school.

- Complete the online survey: What Helps Create a Sense of Belonging in Oregon College and Training Programs? The survey is available in English, French, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese, and is open through May 27, 2026. Survey link: tinyurl.com/hecc-belonging

- Consider organizing a conversation: Oregonians are welcome to share their input by hosting a conversation with their community about belonging. OKT has created the Kitchen Table Conversation Guide for anyone in Oregon who wants to organize and host a Kitchen Table Conversation with their family, friends, neighbors, or any group. Anyone interested may contact Oregon's Kitchen Table at [email protected] or (503) 725-5248 for support in hosting a discussion. Conversation guide link: https://lnkd.in/gnAqwz-g

Please help us share this opportunity for engagement! The input collected from this survey and engagement initiative will help inform future actions as we work to better serve Oregon communities.

PRESS RELEASE: State Awards Grants to Build Workforce Pathways in the Semiconductor Industry

In a press release today, the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) is pleased to announce that it has offered $8.5 million in grants from Oregon’s Semiconductor Talent Sustaining Fund (STSF) to eight grantees to build workforce pathways in the semiconductor industry and support the growth of this sector in Oregon. The funds were allocated to the STSF by Governor Tina Kotek and awarded to seven higher education institutions and one nonprofit organization that are active members of Frontiers of Advanced Semiconductor Technology (FAST), a partnership led by Oregon State University and consisting of 95 cross-sector partners. These investments will connect Oregonians to high‑wage, high‑demand careers and further strengthen the state’s semiconductor talent pipeline.

The grantees, all participants in FAST, are Chemeketa Community College, Mt. Hood Community College, Oregon Tech, Oregon State University, Oregon STEM, Portland Community College, Portland State University, and University of Oregon.
